Beckett Simonon is a good option too, more in line with Allen Edmonds at that lower price point. If you are looking to upgrade from Cole Haan or J&M etc it is a good starting point.
Beckett Simonon leather quality and construction are good for the price. It’s a good gateway brand to experiment with what you like. You could either upgrade after that, if you have an interest, or stick with BS/AE.
Quality shoes are good to consider as an investment. Most of my C&J shoes and boots look close to new even after significant wear over the years. Even the AE shoes clean up quite nicely.
Keep in mind with cheaper “genuine leather” shoes, the leather falls apart and plastic coating begins to crack. They are also less expensive, so you can just keep replacing them if that’s your thing. Better quality leather doesn’t crack, creases less, and appearance can even improve over time.

Some of them look alright, but I hate, hate HATE the GD sneaker/dress shoe hybrids with the godawful soles. Even Allen Edmonds is getting in on it.

They have a darker Carolina Brown leather too, but I'm partial to Natural Chromexcel.
Sanity in an otherwise crazy world.
There have been a lot of flavor of the month shoes that by and large are overpriced glued sole shoes full of EVA that will break down even if you don't wear them, they are on the clock from the day they are manufactured. The only positive is they are generally comfortable from the first wear.
Those Rancort loafers are extremely versatile and will last a lifetime with the Horween CXL leather. With their traditional construction with a leather welted sole they can be recrafted and look better 20 years from now even with multiple wears a week. They are also not going to look dated 2 seasons from now.

It’s not a one size fits all for sure, but all I can say is I get nothing but compliments on all of mine, and I’ve never been one for buying into a brand on much of anything, save this. For me, it’s as much practical and comfortable as aesthetic.

You seem pretty conservative and it also sounds like you won’t wear these a lot. I would just go down and get something like some Rockports or something that will be comfortable and won’t go out of style.
My go-to is the Rockport Eureka. Been wearing these for years. Very comfortable, durable, and look good for business casual.

Buy a pair of sneaker style dress shoes. Can be worn with a suit to blue jeans

man no offense but those are terrible. The casual white sole on business casual shoes needs to go away. It looks ridiculous

They’ll get downvoted to hell I’m sure, but the brown leather sneakers with the white sole is an easy overall shoe to dress. Wear them in a business casual setting with khaki or navy pants but also dark jeans. A pair of cognac color chelsea boots is also in my rotation for this type of need in a shoe.

It's the white sole that looks horrible. I have nothing against a hybrid dress/comfort or sneaker shoe per se.

That’s what I don’t get. Why does the sole have to be white?

Thanks! Plenty to look at. I have a pair of the white sole, looking for something a little smoother

I think it’s gotta be essentially pulling from the aesthetic of the cristy sole on boots, which has been around for a while now.
