All rebuttals have been posted already. You're being intentionally dense, arguing that bars can stay open from midnight to six, they just can't serve patrons after two. It's a ridiculous argument and you know it. Continually arguing that point with you wouldn't do any good.
There's a saying about arguing with idiots.
ETA: As for poking holes in your argument, the holes are already there. I'm just pointing them out to you. It's up to you to either acknowledge them or stick your head in the sand. You've chosen the latter.

I don't want to do anything "so badly" after midnight. But I've taken full advantage of the 24 hour Wallgreens or Wal Mart's near my house for odds and ends in the wee hours of the morning (Ran out of OTC meds, batteries for a smoke alarm that went off, etc.)
Nope, the only thing open after midnight are havens of sin.

Obtuse because you have no rebuttal. There are absolutely ways around most of the effects of the curfew, you just don't want to see them.
You can keep trying to poke a hole in any argument I post, but the fact remains, you just don't want to be (theoretically) inconvenienced, and you think the curfew is stupid regardless.
Can you actually sit there and defend a whole parish wide fricking curfew? There is legitimately no water in the streets period in areas near campus. This notion you think people should stay at bars until 6 am is downright hilarious.

I didn't realize they were the only ones working crazy hours. Friends drove in from out of town to help but I only have them for a week, so we absolutely are not stopping early for a curfew. Last time I checked I was a grown up, and if I needed to work until 2am I don't really give a shite what the sheriff thinks about it.
Understand the rules of the curfew, and quit being so reactionary to the term "curfew."
“The curfew gives law enforcement probable cause to stop and question someone out after curfew to determine if they have a legitimate reason to be there. Those traveling to and from work, delivering food, fuel, etc. will not have issues. Those that do not have a good reason to be out are subject to arrest.” - Casey Hicks (EBRSO Spokeswoman)
If you have people in for only a week and you're trying to get as much shite done as possible - have at it. That's considered "work." As long as you aren't driving around aimlessly, you should be pardoned.

I'm thinking solutions to your potential problems. It's better than sitting here bitching about something that's not changing regardless of how much you stomp your feet and scream.
You go out after midnight to the bar/casino, you'll probably get a ticket at the least if you're seen by police. Those are the facts.
Certainly driving after drinking and breaking curfew would probably be the dumbest thing a person could do in this situation.

How long are you people actually in favor of this? You think a drastic change will occur today that won't require this curfew tomorrow?

legitimate reason
Who gets to define this? What if I'm out of town and coming back in late at night?

This gives a scary amount of discretion to law enforcement, in my opinion.
And what's to stop a looter from claiming that the shite he took from someone's flooded house wasn't his to begin with? Or his friend's house that he's helping.
I drove across town last night with a truck full of salvageable property from a friend's house that he needed to store in my garage temporarily. I should just hope that the cop believes my story? I should be pardoned.

what can they do if everyone ignores the curfew

That's called an unlawful stop. Check your constitution

What do you want to do so bad after midnight?
It isn't about me. I addressed this in my post.
I no longer live in BR (although I was for part of last weekend and will be returning today to help out), but I have family (parents) and friends that have been gutting their houses and their family's houses all day and into the night (past 10). If they want to go out after, grab food after, or just get away for bit after, they should have every right to do so freely.

Hopefully, their efforts are working.
The point was that the curfew was delayed until days after the worst of the flooding. So where was the rampant looting after the flooding started, but before the curfew. Furthermore, how much of that was in the sheriff's jurisdiction.
I believe there was somewhere ~15 in the days before the curfew was implemented. That isn't rampant imo, and you can't assume those same criminals wouldn't be committing theft in other circumstances. The economic impact will be more costly than the few incidents of looting that has happened in the Parish.
People are breaking the curfew rule anyways. It is just forcing the businesses to close early.
Like I already said, while I don't agree with it being implemented at all (especially via the governor and over the Mayor President's head), you can justify it as the police and other resources being overworked and needing relief for a day or two (although that wasn't really the justification Sid gave).
Today is Friday where many small businesses in the area make their money. You have people traveling in from around the region and country for their kids to start the semester. You even have the people who have lost everything that could have used some entertainment. There is a cost to every action, and for the government to impose restrictions on their citizens, their should be 1) widespread drastic circumstances (and that isn't the case for a large portion of BR...the city has power and the majority of the roads are safe), and 2) a huge reward for imposing those restrictions.

4 hours is a good amount of time to sober up before driving home.
People can still hangout and listen to music, play on their phones, etc.
I really hope you are trolling, otherwise you are a complete moron. If you honestly think this then I'm not wasting my time explaining 100 different reasons it's a horrible idea

So if you're against government overstep, you're going to drink and drive?
No. But they'll need to patrol for the dumbasses that do.
quote:
Why should those local businesses have to lose money and be forced to shut down early?
Guess it's the risk you take when you open a bar. I do feel for those guys. They are falling victim to the circumstances - but if you want to help them out, go donate your funds to them between the hours of 5:00 - 12:00.
quote:
Apparently not between 10-6 the past few nights at the expense of local businesses.
I know - they shouldn't be allowed to take a break. Let's run their asses into the ground. It's not like they aren't still patrolling areas.

Where was the huge looting problem before the curfew was put in place?
Oh, I think they nipped that pretty quick... And now preventing it from continuing.

So after a week is when it becomes unacceptable to restrict commerce and restrict the rights of the citizens?
Whenever our Sherriff's office feels it's safe to do so. After the past few weeks - they've still got my support and I trust their judgment.
quote:
Well first off, it has been 10 until today, which is ridiculous. 2nd, where is the evidence of the rampant looting
In case you need to read the evidence again
Quit being a bitch about it. Stay at home after midnight.

So you discount the judgment of the chief of BRPD the mayor and the counsel. Sid is only person who thinks this necessary. In the article you linked the arrests were made by BRPD not the sheriff's office. I said this a bunch but this is political dick measuring between Kip and the Sheriff.

What kind of question is this? Why do people think it's their business to ask why people want to be out after midnight? Look a-hole, it's my fricking right to be out after midnight and when you take that right away over a pissing contest you're overstepping your authority. As long as I'm not doing anything illegal or impacting you directly it's none of your damn business what I want to do after midnight, so go frick yourself and mind your own business. We the people give assholes like Sid too much power and it clearly gets abused in times like these. frick him, I'll vote for whoever runs against him purely for principal in this matter alone. This is an abuse of power. He will never get my vote again.
