Probably not at their offices. It is possible but highly unlikely. Probably more like 72-74. Lots of older women in those offices....

I don't care for them much these days, but Rick and Bubba had a hilarious segment on this topic out in California years ago when Arnold was governor.

How bout them fed fellas come down to South Alabama when it is 101 degrees with a heat index of 115 with 90 percent humidity and shower in the sweat that pours off my balls.

My house stays 68 all year round.

You couldn’t do this in Louisiana because it’s too humid. The most important part of the AC is the dehumidifying. Continually keeping it that high will make your walls damp and will easily let mold grow.

I keep ours on 71 all the time. I might turn it up to 76 when we go on vacation if I remember.

Question:

Does 78 degrees indoors in the Deep South feel exactly the same as 78 degrees in, say, New York?

I imagine the higher humidity would make a similar temperature more miserable in the South.

In a properly sized and functional system those temp settings would prevent as much mold as 72 degrees. A modern AC system is supposed to be sized according to the volume of the space, ambient atmospheric conditions and the content, use and sources of losses in the space. If you have ever spent any time in a space with over sized systems you will know that humidity is a problem while temperatures are very low...its because the coil temp is not synced with the amount of airflow thus failing to remove the moisture required to "feel" comfortable...window units are notorious for being "cold and clammy" roof top RV units are the same for similar reasons...if your system is sized right lowere thermostat settings would have little to no impact on relative humidity because the correct amount of water will be removed at the right amount of air exchange at any but extreme settings which would prevent any or very little exchange...

An A/C system is only dehumidifying when the compressor is running. if the air passing over the coil doenst reach dew point then moisture will not dopr out of the air stream.....

Those that oversize their units dont pull enough moisture out of the air

dryer air will feel cooler then humid air

To a point...in very dry climates adding humidity can make the temperature "feel" cooler...lot of swamp coolers still being used around the world.

Pio starts this thread every spring and gets about 1500 downvotes. He probably already posted his 2023 edition.

swamp coolers work due to evaporative cooling.... as water evaporates across the wet fins as the air flows across, the air is cooled. so you are making the air cooler and no longer comparing the same feel of air temp dry vs wet

dry air will feel cooler as it holds less heat capacity (water vapor has the heat capacity)
