I grew up listening to all types of music, but my older brother (10 years older than I am) was into rap/hip hop.. He use to make me tapes of Run DMC, Beatie Boys, 2 Live Crew, Slick Rick, etc. So I have always sort of favored rap/hip hop.

You can take the lyrics of a lot of songs and make them more explicit, put a hip hop beat behind it and people will hate it before even really listening to it to notice it's a more explicit version of a song they like.

There is shite rap out there. There is also shite country, rock, etc.. But for the most part its a generation thing.

My mom told me that her dad thought Elvis was horrible. He couldn't believe how he would do all that shaking and just thought it was a sin to play his music on the airwaves.

It seems that people over 40 lose their minds every time a rap song comes on.

Probably because rappers like BDP, Run DMC, Kool Moe D, Kurtis Blow, LL Cool J, NWA, 2 Live Crew, Public Enemy, and Tribe Called Quest don't 'come on' the stations you're tuned to.
But I guarantee you 40-50 yr olds most definitely like those artists. It's more like a generation thing than genre. 60s rock fans hated Grunge.

TH03 will say Dallas rap music is better than BR rap music, and it’s not even close.

BC it is devoid of any musical talent.

Do you think limericks are the the height of artistic expression? Because that is spoken verse with a rhyming pattern and bawdy lyrics. Why aren't the Irish all upset about cultural appropriation?

It’s just like the NBA. I liked it in the 80’s and early 90’s, but both are pure shite now.

I hate the heavy emphasis on bass. I mean it's not spoken poetry if you have to have so much bass.

This. But I wouldn't call 40 "old". Not 50 even.

It sucks because it isn't music. "Music" to us over 50 has good lyrics as well as good sound. Music by artists like Huey Lewis, Chicago, The Eagles, and as far back as Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin, The Temptations, ect. all have those qualities that this mindless crap called Rap or Hip Hop don't. Get back to me in 20 years when oldies stations are playing rap... Oh wait, that'll never happen.

This hits the nail on the head.. Anyone that has played "music" at sometime in their lives knows it takes talent !...Rap takes nothing that resembles talent!

NBA was awesome in the 80s and early 90s. Magic, Bird, Jordan, Kareem, Isiah, Hakeem, Barkley, Malone.

It's a primadonna crap league now where all of the stars collude to play on the same team instead of hating each other's guts.
