Old school rap was awesome. Geto Boys, UGK, Dr. Dre, Snoop, cash money millionaires, etc.

They had some believability with their lyrics. Drake is a different story.

Yep. People that play music know what it takes to create real music.

I'm going to go learn to play the guitar/piano/etc... vs

I'm going to push some buttons on a computer, maybe write some made up words down that rhyme (or not if I'm edgy), turn up the bass, grab a 40 and a gun, and throw away my belt.

I find many people grow out of rap.

I can easily find people listening to classic rock, country, pop, blues, jazz and find a good sized market for those. You rarely hear classic rap being played.

Not uncommon to hear Nirvana, Metallica and RHCp being played. Can’t remember the last time I heard someone listen to Bone, Too Short or Onyx.

Does it require any further talent than the ability to push a button?

Depends on where you are, who you hang around, and what music stations you listen to

At one point old people hated Elvis and the Beatles. Old people hate everything.

My grandmother was born in 1920 and was smack in the middle of the WWII generation. And she adored Elvis. She loved Gospel Elvis, Rock Elvis, Movie Elvis, skinny Elvis, fat Elvis, didn’t matter... she loved Elvis. I remember her sobbing while watching his funeral on TV.

I've played Guitar Hero and Rock Band and I've written music on a computer. Hitting buttons leads to making noise.

Since I can play guitar, bass, and drums, I'd rather use a real instrument. And I have written songs that require a little more creativity and effort than pushing a button and letting software do the work for me.

Over 50. I mean rap was popular in the late 80's, early 90'. Those people are now close to 50.

So it's not that older people hate rap, it's older people hate modern rape because it's no talent shite. None of these rappers come from the street.

But if you think about it. How is that much different than an electric guitar? The electric guitar was once looked at like beat machines are today. Either way you still have to find the right notes, but it all together, etc.

It's all about timing, like playing a guitar.

You have no idea what I can or cannot do. If I wanted to make a tune instead of going to a computer to have it make the tune for me, I’d go pick up my Fender bass guitar and I’d make it myself.

No it wasn’t. It still required the ability to actually play the guitar.

But could you do it on the computer? We’re not talking about your bass guitar.

Rap isn't music. Not even close.

I have no doubt in my mind I could do it on a computer. But again, why would I when I can do it on my bass guitar? Making music on a computer when you could do it using an actual instrument would be like beating your meat when you could have sex with an good looking woman.

BTW, can you make music using an instrument that’s not a computer?
