My favorite is the cool guy that brings a cart full of items to the self check out. Takes him about 30 minutes to go through the process. To me, that guy is the a-hole more than some middle aged woman trying to figure out banana code is 4011.

Self checkout kicks arse. I'd use it all the time if the lanes were set up for more than a few bags of items

Not to rip off Bill Burr's bit, but frick self check out. I don't work at Target, or Home Depot, or Lowe's, etc. Refusing to hire cashiers so that it then takes longer to check out in an effort to force me to work for them for free so that they can reduce their cost of doing business is not happening.
What's next...self stocking the shelves from the backroom if I can't find something on the shelf? Getting there when trucks arrive and self unloading them?
Now...get off my lawn!

Yeah, you need the ones people are talking about that are converted cashier lines with the conveyors. Otherwise, if you have more stuff than space in the bagging area, you run the risk of...
Personally, if I have more than one or two items, they're checking that shite for me. I'm with Bill Burr on this one.

Self-checkout?
Nope. It's remote controls. The Mrs. literally cannot turn the TV on without assistance.

Yeah mixed feeling on these. Cant stand that you cant just put the bag in the cart to cause delay.
Also, next time try to put in multiples of one product. Took 5-10 mins for the helper to figure it out after putting codes in. All to avoid swiping 10 cans of tuna.
I kind of like the checker doing it all. Seems you are free help, but prices are the same.

I love self checkout until I but something like glue and need to show I'd and have to wait fir assistance. Then have to have the door person go through every bag.
If all stores were ran like HEB or Zuppardo's we wouldn't need self checkout and all our items would be bagged and carried to the car if needed.

can't hold a candle to the self-order kiosk at McDs.
That's entertainment if you are just watching.

I'll drive past WinnDixie
to get to Breax Mart because it has cashiers.
I like to keep people working

Wha
Well I always thought if I’m checking my own shite and bagging it it should be discounted 10%.
The Scan and Go app for Sam’s is nice. I scan as I load my buggy check out wherever I’m standing then just show barcode at door. No cashier or waiting in line.

The worst is older folks who have never embraced the debit card and still write checks at the supermarket. I got behind such the sort just 2 days ago at Rouses on Carrollton Avenue.
She had to be 80 and didn't start writing the check until her bill was totaled and then had to ask the cashier for a pen to do so.
Then had to present her ID and also put her phone number on the check before it was approved.

You still have to scan it for them, though. The holy grail is what Amazon's working on where your items are RFID scanned as you walk out the door and your CC on file is charged. No cashiers. No self-checkout. You just... leave.

That’s not in play around here yet so at the moment this is as good as it gets.

I never understood the McDonald's kiosk. You can do the same thing from their app and not have to touch the screen that the great unwashed already put their grimy hands all over.
ETA: Plus, the app gives you deals that you won't see elsewhere. I just fired it up and discovered that they have a deal right now where you buy 10 nuggets and get 10 more for a penny.
