Not exactly. Louisiana is an E title state.
If he has a title for the truck... Chances are like 99:1 he owns it.

Do you live in a title holding state? In a title holding state, you have the title, but you still have to pay your loan. The lienholder sends you a notarized lien release once it's paid off.
Is the lender listed anywhere on the title. If so, do you have a notarized release of the lien?

Sounds like OPs lease was up and they accidentally mailed him the title. Now he's ducking the finance company by using his friends address.
And all these questions he's answering with additional bits of info would be helpful in the OP.
I guarantee it's more than the repo man was accidentally sent to get his truck.

You called and they said you owe money. Did you not clarify how much and for what?

No shite.
And my other question is why did he even include the part about his mail being delivered to friends house, blah blah, don't trust city mail, blah blah? All it did was give him more "trashability" and make it seem more like a troll thread. It'd be like telling someone you had a flat tire on the way to work, but also stopped at McDonald's before that...it's irrelevant to the main point of the story/post. Let's just mark this up as dumbass/troll/thread

quote:Lease? You don't get the title after paying your lease term. You have to continue making the monthly payments or give the truck back.
I have title in hand and all bank statements proving my 48 month lease was paid off

Lease to own? You better check that "title" out.
Kinda weird that you'd qualify for a 7.5% "lease to own" contract but you couldn't qualify for a regular loan. Hell, 7.5% is kinda high for a regular loan these days. With any kind of credit score you can get that rate.
My call: We're not getting the whole true story here.

Not in my experience. I took a loan out from Regions to buy a car. The state mailed me the title. Regions called about the same time asking me to send it on over. I’m sure there is language in the loan saying that if the title isn’t sent, the loan will be defaulted.

The title is signed by the company. Showing that they sold the truck to me. Title, and bill of sale are all signed by the company. I just have to go to the DMV and get the title switched over in my name.
Not dodging anything. 48/48 payments were paid along woth a closing cost fee.
I emailed said bitch and she is stating that they are unaware of any repossession action being taken.
This is one fricked up situation. Thats why I seeked the OT's thoughts.

No. Its a well known company. 7.5% interest. First vehicle i ever bought and had very little credit to my name.
Also, a lot of those places have GPS and remote shut off. I guess you disabled yours?

What are the chances your friend is F'ing with you and the Repo truck never actually came by?
Because OP you sound pretty fun and easy to screw with.

IF you have the vehicle title in your sole name , and they repo it call the cops, They have committed grand theft auto PERIOD.
edit, oops didn't realize some states work differently , my advice only applies in states where the lien holder doesn't keep the title until the lien is paid.

But, it was a LEASE! you don't own the damn thing. They probably not only want the truck back but the title too.

How the frick does a grown arse adult in this country not know the difference between a lease and a lien on a vehicle?
If you leased a vehicle and the leasing agency accidentally sent you the title on a vehicle you didn't purchase, you don't get to just keep the vehicle OP. Good grief.
Also, as others have already pointed out, getting your mail at your "friend's house" is not just weird, it's downright bizarre.

Actually, it would not be GTA. A clerical error resulting in a repo is a civil matter since there would be no criminal intent. Unless there is some weird plan between a person at the finance company and the repo company to actually steal the vehicles and drive or sell them it is all within civil jurisdiction.
