Did something happen in Seattle that would indicate that their entire police department sucks?
From where I am standing, the council needs to be removed entirely. The police just need a little house cleaning.

its a great city and an absolutely beautiful area
For how much longer, though?
Seattle is a pretty big area with lot's of awesome neighborhoods that make up the city. They have very few problem areas and I don't see that really changing. Of course the few bad areas are going to get worse, but there just really aren't that many lowlife criminals like we have in our cities here.
Now the Antifa stupid asses could still ruin stuff if they decide that these measures aren't enough to make them happy.

It will be a police force held responsible by citizens instead of higher ranking cops. That would be in line with the Minneapolis proposal, and at face value, isn’t a bad idea in theory.
So they're going to fix a large bureaucratic mess with....another layer of bureaucracy.
Now if they're able to do this and at the same time get rid of the police union, they may actually get somewhere holding rogue cops accountable.
Liberal city getting rid of a union...who the hell am I kidding with that one.

If this fail they will have to own it with blood on their hands.
But they won't, they'll blame Trump.

If you're still a cop in Seattle you're either in on this insanity or you're not mentally competent enough to be a cop

The crime rate will be moving up drastically
crime in Seattle has been trending upwards the last 5 years or so with most of the country
I'll be curious to see if it continues with national trends after this

It'll be more than baws from Lafayette if crime rates skyrocket. How many people you see visiting Detroit and El Paso?

That's all these cities will end up doing is effectively renaming the police department so they can show the rest of the country how woke they are. fricking morons.
It's brilliant actually. Fool your idiot constituents in to thinking you're "doing something" while expanding the government and more opportunities to funnel tax payer dollars to your friends and family.

Read the words following what you have underlined on page 1 and explain to all of us how you are equating "remove certain functions" with "abolish the entire department."

They'll just be replaced with more of the same.

they will more than likely just use the state/federal police to continue policing most things
Like Milwaukee? They banned all sorts of crowd control measures used by police departments which led to 100 or more departments declining to work the upcoming DNC. The city actually said it is looking at the option of getting federal forces to provide security.
I thought these cities didn't want federal intervention, though?

It's actually been happening.

This is what you’d expect if children were in charge, they’re so hopelessly naive.

From what I’ve seen, they plan to cut the budget by removing things like unnecessary equipment (demilitarizing the police), moving 911 dispatch outside of the police department to a civilian run site, etc and moving most of that money to fund affordable housing, some to covid relief, and a good bit to woke black/brown people (their terms) outreach.
The officers will still be officers, but reporting to civilian “oversight” and trained differently.
Like I said, in theory, it doesn’t sound bad, but power corrupts and we could easily see the same issues arise within the civilian leaders just like with any politician.

4th pic, 5th bullet point tells you everything you need to know.
They want you to be government dependent.... you know the same government that they claim is full of racism.

The idea that you can send unarmed social workers to confront violent felons is one of the funnier things I've heard come out of all this. Who's going to take that job?

his is going to be awesome to watch unf
This is exactly how it will unfold:
1.Have a police
2. Remove police
3. Replace with community helpers
4. See unnecessary crime occur
5. Complain about unsafe homes , streets, etc
6. Create a group that can better control the protection of life and property
7. Have a police
A police department is created out of need
Taking it away doesn’t dissolve the need

Yeah that’s why I say in theory.

Yeah I haven’t seen much if anything about addressing unions which I would agree is extremely important if you want to address the issue and not symptoms.

Heh. Everything is a bank when Nancy Jarvis-Winslow and her Master's degree in Gender Psychology is gonna be the first responder to a 911 call.
