Well I stand corrected. That’s interesting because I assumed the cartel violence spilled over quite often. Makes sense that El Paso would be off limits kinda like tourist areas in Cancun are.

Yeah, it's understandable. Most people do think that with Juarez so close that El Paso is dangerous. Only when the cartels and Federales get into gun battles near the river and bullets start flying across the border.
The old city hall (which is now torn down and replaced with a minor league baseball stadium), an office at UTEP was hit by bullets from gunfight across the river.
Also, some houses in neighborhoods near the river, and a woman shopping downtown have been hit by stray bullets during the height of the cartel wars about 10 years ago.
