I was in Lowe’s this morning. It almost seemed like being in Sears with all the Craftsman items everywhere.

I just don't know what will bring people into Sears. Their brands used to draw so much traffic, but now you can find them in other places.

Here's my model for the "new" Sears. Completely rip off Amazon and carry their top 1000 selling products and top 1000 selling books in every location. Just tell people to shop on Amazon, but then come get it at Sears, everything price matched. Done.

Why would I get dressed to go pick it up at Sears when I can just stay in my tighty whiteys and let Amazon bring it to me in three days for the same price.

At this point I have to think he's just too invested emotionally.

It isn't about saving the company. Lampert is doing this to make himself more money.

And to release himself from any liability from his actions that devalued the company.

Lands end is an example of how Eddie is stripping sears of assets for personal gain

“•Lands' End: Sears spun off retailer Lands’ End in 2014, but Lampert's hedge fund owns 59% of the company. That stake was worth nearly $360 million as of Wednesday morning.”

It’s possible he knows how to turn it around but wanted to own it or didn’t have enough control to do what he wanted so he bided his time until he could buy them out. Or even intentionally ran it into the ground so he could have a buying opportunity. I’ve seen that happen with smaller companies many times, including a couple catfish processing plants

I don't either but I hope they are able to figure it out. The amount of people that would be impacted by them going under is huge, never good when we have job losses like that.

Sears, after bankruptcy, is opening new stores for home goods
quote:

Sears will open three “Sears Home & Life” stores in May, in Anchorage, Alaska; Lafayette, Louisiana; and Overland Park, Kansas.

That’s after the department store chain has shut hundreds of Sears and Kmart locations over the years and filed for bankruptcy protection in October.

No one wants to go to these types of department stores any more. They need an entirely new business model or the need to just give up.

It is unbelievable that the store that once ruled the world of mail order was not the first to take advantage of that newfangled internet thingymaju.

So it took this long for Sears to realize a path forward?

Management is to blame for not preparing for this inevitable shift in consumer behavior a decade ago.

Sears had an inflexible, bureaucratic culture back in the 70s. It would be struggling some if there had never been an internet.

I remember a Sears executive calling the internet a "passing fad" sometime back in the mid 90's.

10-15 years ago, Sears should have dropped all clothing and just become a home store with their tools, appliances/TVs, and other home furnishings. They would be thriving on a smaller scale. Also they should have had someone who wasn’t a lemonhead design their website, which is a joke.

Yeah, I could see why they said this as they got burned on an ISP’s they helped start up and lost a ton of cash.

But, where Sears really lost was when they sold off their Credit Card Division to help prop up the company for some fast cash.

Think about the billions in debt they gave to customers that were paying minimums at 19-24% interest. I know default rates can be high, but at a time, I heard that Sears was so set in collecting their debt, they even sent attorneys for the smallest of bankruptcy cases to make sure they got their cut.

Seers should turn every store into an indoor baseball facility and dominate the travel ball scene.

Sears is one of the worst stores I've ever had to deal with.

And at one time they were one of the best. Times change and they didn't change with them.

The last couple times I was in the local Sear's I could have emptied a shotgun in any direction and hit nobody. Far cry from their heyday years.

I'm old enough to remember getting that 5 LB catalog in the mail and browsing through it for days on end. Sad story indeed.
