I haven't bought a brand new vehicle in years. The sweet spot seems to be about 2 years old with less than 25k miles. I recently bought the wife a 2 year old loaded with every feature Infinity Q60 with 18k miles for $32k, original sticker was about $60k. After 2 years they hold the value much better.

I did the same thing with a Tahoe, drove it 6 years and still sold it for 50% of what I paid for it 2 years old.

Yup. 3rd Gens are the shite and will drive forever. Found a 1997 that was a one owner with 130k miles on it (manual trans) for 6k. Clutch and timing change are the only main expenses for changes. Should go for awhile.

The companies con consumers into the new vehicles making them they are getting a great deal. 11k off the MSRP sounds good, but usually still comes out 50k+. The MSRP is just there to truck consumers because you can never sell a vehicle at that price.

Agree. I was just looking online this morning at some 2016 F150's. 20,000 or so miles for $25-30k. After trade in I'll be looking at around $400/month payment instead of twice that for new. That's with no extra cash down and I drive a 10 year ild vehicle as is.

I already decided that after spending 35k on a suv

Driving my 08 Honda Accord until it blows up then will find a used vehicle I can buy with cash or way cheaper

You can get a nice half ton 4x4 for 40+/- plus TTL.

But everyone wants luxury trim and complains of cost.

Thank our state for the 10% sales tax

You can get a crew cab, V8 pickup from any of the American Manufacturers for about $30k. It really doesn't have to be ridiculous. The problem is it's so easy to say I need leather,4x4, big media screen, big tires etc and that's why so many people end up with $60k trucks.

add your own leather 1000.00

If I have 6-12 months I agree... however, I still think for the most part buying new is the way to go unless I plan on buying much older and can pay off immediately

6-12 months? you are not shopping for a house. When I get ready for a new vehicle I start researching online. Checking prices, looking online at new and used ( I tend to buy new most of the time fwiw ). I figure out what I want then narrow it down to a few dealers. Then I visit and test drive what I am interested in. I have already researched it and know ball park what I should pay. I then let the dealers battle it out for my business.

Don't forget that hefty sales tax we pay, $45K becomes $50K after TTL.

I have a Acura MDX and a Ford Excursion, wife has a minivan. I haven't owned a truck since I landscaped in college 20 years ago. Not once have I wished I had a truck. Between my vehicles I can hold 22 people a ton of crap and pull 5k to 9k lbs.

After it was determined my vehicle was totaled, I started looking. I didn't need a time line to buy as I was able to research various car lots over a 50+ mile radius and had several other websites to use.
I knew what I wanted and the price I wanted to pay and didn't settle, I didn't need a month because everything is accessible by internet. I probably could have gotten a bit of a better deal (500-1000) had I waited till a slower period though

the internet definitely helps big time. Especially in your situation. You can work up a decent deal within a few days nowadays without took much work. In the past though you had to visit the lots it definitely hurt when you are crunched with time.

Well yeah, with KBB, Truevalue, etc it helps to know what you should expect. I sent out interest in several vehicles and got online prices before I ever stepped foot on a lot. Helped a lot because they gave me a decent deal and I was able to talk them down for that.

A large majority of people can’t afford $40k vehicles.. and they certainly can’t afford $50-$60k vehicles.

People buy them. And they think they can afford them since they can pay the note. But you need to be making close to, if not more than, $100k to really be able to afford a $40k vehicle. And easily over $100k to afford a $50k-$60k vehicle.
