How much CO2 are we going to have to capture to offset this? Goes to show how much of a scam carbon capture is.

quote:

Significantly elevated levels of volcanic gas emissions were recently observed around Mount Spurr, which is located 75 miles from Anchorage that is home to nearly 300,000 people.

quote:

The Alaska Volcano Observatory (AVO) said the emissions 'confirm' that new magma is flowing beneath the volcano, indicating an foreseeable eruption. Increased seismic activity and ground deformation have also been detected in the surrounding area. These signs indicate 'that an eruption is likely, but not certain, to occur within the next few weeks or months,' scientists said. If Mount Spurr erupts, it would produce destructive mudslides, avalanches of hot gas and flows of lava racing down the volcano's side at over 200 miles per hour. Scientists predict the ash cloud would travel hundreds of miles away, engulfing anyone in low-lying areas in toxic emissions.

I remember I was in college last time it erupted. I keep expecting Redoubt to erupt again (not too far from Spur).

Talkeetna, the tiny town that inspired Northern Exposure, is about 100 miles northeast of there. I've been there because I used to go out with a girl who had family in Wasilla, which is just North of Anchorage. I begged her to go, and she relented, but said the hour drive would be boring. It was by far the most beautiful drive I've ever taken. The land up there is gorgeous. At least in the summertime.

Something about Talkeetna and that area feels magical. It’s one of my favorite vacation memories. We also got to see Denali for the first time from Talkeetna.

Seriously Clark??? Well, just in case you really don't know.

It's the centuries old native Alaskan name for Mt. McKinley.

In the late 1800's a gold prospector, in his infinite wisdom, decided to name it in honor or Presidential Candidate William McKinley and to hell with what the native people have called it for centuries.

Kind of like explorers sticking a flag in foreign soil and saying it's now theirs mentality.

Sweet. Have a cruise booked for AK next month. Might not be as boring as I thought.

A Volcano throws a ton of SO2 in the atmosphere, which cools the atmosphere by reflecting solar radiation, but also causes acid rain.

Edit: Sulphur Dioxide. It caused the mini-ice age.
