Holland addressed their flooding subsequent to the 1953 floods and levee breaches. They secured voter approval to take an active stance on flood control which taxes all. They also took steps to reclaim the Zuider Zee / IJsselmeer creating expansion for land and farms. This state could learn a lot from Dutch engineers, not just for levees but also for alternative residential construction methods, e.g. floating houses that rise up on the poles anchoring them in place.

Knew this years ago. The husband of my wife's client worked with the generators for the pumping systems at the base of the canals.

You've built quite a strawman. Because I believe climate change is happening I am a tree hugging liberal who wants to end pollution?
Subsidence has about 5x's the effect that rising sea levels do on this situation. That doesn't mean you should ignore sea level rise.
I'm just glad they people working to fix the problem aren't as ignorant to the causes of the problem as you seem to be.
Who gives a shite what is causing the climate change, staying belligerently ignorant of it is killing solving the problems caused by it.

Perhaps, if we stopped spending hundreds of billions of dollars keeping the Mississippi River in it's easternmost channel ever, and instead allowed it to behave like a real delta instead of dropping river sediment off the continental shelf, we could start having a real solution to the salt water intrusion and land loss problem.

Been done. New Orleans has hired them three times. Dutch Dialogues 1, Dutch Dialogues II, and the GNO UWP. I guess they've only technically hired them twice as DDI was federally coordinated through Sen. Landrieu and they volunteered to come over here and help out on that one.
The Dutch take a no-nonsense approach to flood control. They do what's best for the whole, they don't care about the individual, and they don't work on term limits. Deltaworks is a 100 year plan. That's mind-boggling to an American. We went out to 50 years in some of our work, but had to cut that back in the final versions because it was not a plan we could have politicians buy in to.
