Sea level rise and ground subsidence will render the flood barriers inadequate in as little as four years

Maybe it is time to turn certain areas like the Lower 9th Ward back into swamps collecting runoff from the rest of the city.

Spending one cent of Federal money on this instead of relocation assistance was a huge mistake that should never have happened nor should ever be repeated.

This.

Sea levels are NOT rising tremendously, but the ground IS sinking. The net result is the same, but the causes are very different. The problem is that adding more dirt to the levees to build them higher only causes the soil to sink faster. There is no realistic solution long term other than continually raising the levees or burying the first story of the buildings and raising the streets up a level.

I don't believe anything they say on this crap until it happens... NOTE: the levees are not designed for a major storm, that hits and all bets are off. The bigger problem are the pumps..

Why LOL NOLA? The fricking Feds built the shite.

The city has been alive and well since the 1700's. It's not going to get swallowed up in 4 years.

rising sea levels? the ground sinking much faster than sea levels are rising.... but I guess they have to throw that out there for the greenies to get riled up

It does add to the surge risk.

the ground IS sinking

And this is the primary problem.

Keep building em higher is all we'll ever do. Wetlands restoration out to the south is going to help too. Doesn't do much for the lakeshore though. Was over that way for Hogs a few weeks ago and it's still startling how low that is relative to the lake level.
