Someone in the dirt bag media will run a story on how an area in China has fallen on hard times with the departure of Schwinn.

It’s not hard to find a 1960s Schwinn Collegiate for $550.

The problem is Asia and in particular, Taiwan own the production CF market.
There just aren't many CF frames made in America or Europe anymore, the top of the range Colnago (~$6000 for the frame alone) is made in Italy but it isn't a monocoque. Some of the best CF cloth is made in the US and exported for production.

Depends on the spec. A grand won't even buy most high-quality wheels these days. $1k sits in a tough pricepoint since it will be high for most casual riders and most serious cyclists won't take a second look at Schwinn and haven't since they quit making the Paramount frames.*

They tried this in the late 80's with a plant in Greenville Miss. Bikes were terrible, was a huge failure and one of the reasons that led the Schwinn family to lose the company.

Holy cow,I'm old,but has inflation taken us to this point or is this some gimmick bike that everyone would want.
But wth,a new truck costs more than my first four bedroom house.

I can’t wait for the bikes to be released, cost 10% more than the Chinese-made counterparts, and then when no one buys them, they’ll blame the company for abandoning the project.
