Schools/summer camps/youth sports

Realistically what are we lookin at for kids? Know we’re probably out for the rest of the school year but what’s this look like moving forward? Kids going to camp this summer? Will schools shut down again in the fall if some older teachers start getting sick from all the kiddos? When will youth sports kick back up? Before or after college/pros? As a parent and coach I’m curious what the consensus is. I know lots of folks are wanting to get their kids out of the house asap but you will also have parents that will still be paranoid moving forward for various reasons. Will youth football which has already been dropping in numbers get hurt by numbers dropping even more with folks not wanting their kids playing against other kids? I know I’m throwing a lot out there...

i think summer camps will be a go after memorial day

Sucks but I’m going to say no summer camps for the kiddos.
No way someone or govt entity wants to sign off on allowing a bunch kids to be in packs this summer.

It's winding down. I'm working in the response and it's getting harder to justify keeping people home and decimating the economy. The hospitals can handle the numbers after all. I heard yesterday that April 30 is probably when restrictions will be eased/lifted. Take it for what it's worth.

thus what im basing my opinion on
Summer camps are needed for school aged children bc parents will be back at work, thats why i think they'll be open first week of June

Camp Ozark is Arkansas has said they are 100% on go for the summer. They are a huge camp that brings in kids from all over including New Orleans.

I would think that as a coach you might have more inside knowledge than most on here.
My education contacts tell me they are hearing everything from the year is over to there is a plan to extend this school year depending on whether the all clear is given at the end of this month. Summer school is another wildcard to deal with if the school year goes deeper into the summer.
I know of a school district's plans on having graduation in late July.

Make them little shits go to summer school that way we don’t have to pay for camps.

Yeah, the wife and I are very fortunate to be able to work from for now, but if that gets rescinded before the kids are allowed back to school/camps, one of us are probably going to have to quit our jobs to be able to stay with our child all day.
I know, boo hoo — but it’s just something that we will have to consider (and lots of other 2-income households will have to consider) if this shutdown continues into the summer months .

My son has gone there the last two years but we won't be sending him this go round. Awesome camp.

Your reason for not sending your son to camp this summer bc of the virus? No judgement here. That’s totally your call but that’s why I’m asking the question. Even if school/camps/sports are a go, can’t help but wonder how many folks say thanks but no thanks. Let’s say somewhere from 20-30% of folks think it isn’t safe to send their kids to school/camp/football practice...do they go on anyhow if a segment of the population think it’s “irresponsible” and refuse to send their kids?

Here's kind of my thoughts. This is for Louisiana.
1) The general stay at home order will not be extended past April 30.
2) Schools will not "re-open", however, they will be allowed to open up in May to conduct year-end activities such as award ceremonies and graduations. Possibly with attendance limitations (grad ceremonies limited to 2-4 guests for example). Kids will turn in textbooks and any borrowed tech, etc.
3) Bars and restaurants and hotels will probably be allowed to reopen on May 1, with capacity limitations. Those capacity limits will be removed around Memorial Day.
4) Casinos will reopen around Memorial Day.
5) Day Camps / youth sports will be allowed to re-start around Memorial Day. Might be no overnight youth camps allowed this summer.
6) Major sporting events will re-start in June with few/no fans, with fans allowed back in full by Labor Day.
