How is this different than a district that closes small schools and combines them into one mega school to cut costs? This just sounds like a district simply using a law in a way it wasn't intended as cover to save money.
The end result is the same regardless of it being a liberal or conservative excuse. Some shithead can claim they cut costs and use that to advance their career.

I thought the 30% was odd, I guess I didn't realize the numbers were what they are in LA. How is it so far off from national averages? I would expect some obvious fluctuation with Hispanics having a higher percentage than nationally, but one of the most densely populated cities in the country is so far from national averages that it just took me aback.

Same type of things happen here in La. My wife's school was faced with budget cuts and some funding pulled if it didn't take x amount of low income kids, become more diverse and they also threatened to pull free lunches from low income kids at the school bc the majority of kids brought their own lunches. The principal now wants all kids to eat at school to continue the funding for free lunches but she hasn't enforced this yet. School doesnt even cook lunches, an outside company brings them in everyday.

These laws were originally put in place so that predominantly white schools wouldn't take away all of the funding. It was never meant to punish these schools. Its true intent was to make sure schools that were populated with minorities got proper funding as well.
