Scary experience at a beignet cafe

I recently went to a beignet café which turned into a scary situation. There were only two employees working, one of whom was in the dining area sweeping and cleaning up. There were only about five tables occupied.

The woman who took my order for carryout also placed the dough in the vat for cooking. While standing there she received a call on her cell phone. She grabbed her phone from her pocket to answer the phone. She removed one of her gloves to hold the phone. She then lowered her mask to talk on the phone.

When my order was ready she grabbed a paper bag, then placed the phone on her shoulder while continuing her conversation. She then grabbed a bag with her gloved hand and stuck her ungloved hand into the bag to open it and turned to grab the handle of the basket with her back turned toward me. I began telling her she could not handle food in such an unsanitary manner but she ignored me. I tried talking louder but she continued to ignore me while talking on her phone. Finally the other employee got her attention and she stopped.

I told her again she was not following sanitary procedures and she tried to tell me she had a personal phone call. I told her I did not care about her phone call, that I was the paying customer and she had to follow health procedures. She then directed an F bomb at me. I told her again I was the customer and she had no right to fail to follow proper procedures. The other employee finished up my order in a new bag and I left.

I have never liked drive thru ordering and this further vindicated my belief. Had I placed this order in a drive up I would have never known how this employee had possibly exposed me to coronavirus or any other diseases. Think about this the next time you order in a drive thru instead of over the counter.
