Or, you could buy their insurance, then throw rocks at the windshield.
I rented a car once and my insurance paid for the rental, but coverage wasn't enough to pay for the Enterprise insurance. I already had a big claim coming on my insurance and I didn't want to deal with Enterprise's bullshite if the car came back with a quarter inch scratch or a chipped windshield, so I paid for the insurance coverage myself.
A week later, when I returned the car, the counter donkey tried to say I had declined the insurance and had to pay out of pocket for a two foot long scrape on the passenger side, which I didn't even know was there because I never went on that side of the car. Now, the agreement you sign says that you'll pay out of pocket for damage ASAP if you don't buy their insurance and then it's up to you to make a claim against your insurance for the damage if you wish. That's the path the counter donkey wanted me to walk down with him.
You have no idea how fricking good it felt to whip out my copy of the rental agreement, point to where I accepted their insurance, and just walk away from that counter donkey and his jacked up car. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt and think that not realizing that I'd paid for their coverage was an honest mistake on the donkey's part. It was late in the day and I used to be married to a counter donkey, so I know how shite that job is. It didn't make it feel any less satisfying to walk away unscathed after stepping right on that several thousand dollar landmine, though.

beware of invoices mailed months after rental for damages. they hope u will submit to your insurer and/or just pay. smaller companies will try this. keep ur receipts and make sure when u return car u keep receipt noting no damage.

They are really pushing that insurance now.
Those rental agents are judged by corporate on how much insurance and other add-ons they sell. It is all tracked and used in reviews. They aren't pushy by choice.

Have used Enterprise for yrs and have never had a problem.Plus their rates are good. Just do pay attention during the pre and post drive inspection as they will note anything you bring up in the pre drive inspection to cover your arse. Their pick up / drop off is hard to beat, too.

If you have Costco book with Enterprise through them and you get really good rates.

A windshield can be that much if you allow yourself to get ripped off

A Google search will show you how wrong you are. I've regretted the few times I've been forced to rent from Enterprise. They are the only company that has that little f*cking card for the sizes of dents so that I can fraudulently charged you.
I avoid them at all cost.

Nope, read everything before, check the car and take pics, put gas in it before you turn it and you should be good.

That is a little high, but not as crazy as you think. A Corolla is about $1k.

Where and why?

No idea. Don't own one. It was some sort of small japanese car that was shocking on price.
Someone posted that on a thread a while back and I was in disbelief. Went to the Safelite website and got a quote. Think it was over $1k at the time.
My jeep windshield is only $250 or so.

When your car is wrecked and being repaired. The insurance co. contacts Enterprise and arranges the rental car getting a cheap daily rate.

Yep. They tried this with my wife several years ago with a car that was returned after hours. The car rental company used a third party collection service to make the attempt. An internet search quickly showed what scumbags the third party were. Fortunately their paperwork was inept (listed two different types of damage on two different forms, dates were wrong, etc.). They gave up quickly.
The usual insurance/gasoline bullshite is annoying enough. At least they are usually not as pushy as they used to be.

We rented cars in Grand Cayman a few years ago. I got the nicest SUV and my buddy got the cheaper option. They gave me a brand new Ford SUV with satellite radio and leather seats, then gave me a discount bc I signed up for the upgraded version. My buddy ended up with a shite no name car with no AC. Think mine was like $20 total more than his. He was so pissed and they were out of everything.

A friend of mine rented an SUV from Enterprise. Three days after it was returned, they decided that the tiny dent they found in the roof was their fault. Sent my friend a bill for $1200. They disputed it for months on end and Enterprise finally folded and paid for it themselves. They got a receipt for the transaction and no damage was noted on the receipt, and then three days later you’re going to claim damage? What’s to say it didn’t happen in the lot? It was an incredibly small dent. Maybe the size of a quarter. But apparently it required the entire roof to be replaced. Friend now takes a 360 top to bottom video of every vehicle rented from them at pickup and drop off to cover themselves.

I just finished a lease on a Mercedes sedan with the traffic safety camera in the windshield. I put three windshields in that car. fricking dump trucks on I-110. Each windshield was $1500 installed. Windshield was almost $900 and then the dealership mechanics have to sync and calibrate the cam to the system.

Leased a car from Hertz in Orlando one time and got their insurance. A rock hut the windshield and cracked it. Brought it back to turn in and person a turn in gave me some grief. I showed him the contract and after that said sorry for the confusion. There was a few papers I signed. I was never charged for the damage.
