Have any of the rental car companies ever tried to scam you? Let’s hear some stories so we can share knowledge to make sure they never scam TD baws.

Rented Hertz and never signed up for FPO (fuel purchase option) but got charged for it. Going to dispute it!

You didn’t get a receipt when you turned the vehicle in?

You sign a contract at the beginning and they email it to you.

It is an open and shut case, Johnson.

Being scammed and not paying attention are two different things.

Last time I was at Enterprise they didn't have any coal-rolling F-350s with truck nuts.

It was through insurance. Insurance company organized everything.

So how do you know they didn't agree to FPO?

had a similar issue. But the refund process is pretty easy. There's an address you send you fuel receipt to, get refunded easily.
Obviously the receipt has to be from a station reasonably close and the time has to be reasonably close to your drop off time.

Not rent a car but I dinged a U-Haul truck one time against a tree and they tried to play it like they lost the insurance papers and made me come back down to prove I had bought it. Was like a 30 min drive too because we had used a car dolley and only some U-Hauls take those.

I just buy new cars with cash from dealerships, everytime one runs out of gas I just get a new one.

Don’t be a dick, but always do the walk around and take pictures of any dents and damage before leaving the lot.

Never been scammed. The employees don’t benefit from making your life more difficult.

I’ve had a lot more positive surprises than negative ones. Usually the negative ones were resolved quickly. Prefer National over the rest of the big name companies.

Enterprise tried to charge me $250 to replace the windshield on a Fiat because there was a piece of rock salt that had scratched it that wasn't noted on the initial walk-thru.

I told them to bill my insurance or pound sand. Never heard from them again.

That was after they tried to charge me for extra insurance which I had specifically declined, showed them on my receipt copy.

Their insurance and fuel upsells are hoakey at best, but they have never misrepresented anything to me concerning a rental.

You still pick the car up and get a rental agreement with everything listed.

They are really pushing that insurance now. I rented a car the other day, because my wife’s is in the shop.

The Enterprise employee said “I would really recommend this insurance, sir, what we see the most of are rocks that hit the windshields. And as you may or may not know windshields are between $1,500 and $2,000 to replace now.”

I wanted to be a dick and call him out on his lie, but I politely declined.
