1.My GF being raped/murdered two weeks after 9/11.
2. Mother passing away from Cancer.
3.Wife spending 10 days in ICU after getting toxic shock from staph infection.
4.Brother in law passing from Cancer very young.
5. My uncles Suicide after he was diagnosed with a terminal illness.
6. Marriage/having kids.
7. 9/11
8. Katrina—( not directly effected but most of my family)
9. Moving from NO area to Lafayette my freshman year of HS.
10. Saints win SB. Die hard since 1988!

Covid hasn’t made my list yet because it has only given me a little aggravation and some anxiety. It will move way up if I lose a family member or my home. My condolences to anyone who may have lost a loved one to this virus, or may have lost a business/job permanently.

It’s not really even that. I was a young kid in the 90s so I never understood the gravity of these events. I do remember vividly watching, hearing about the OKC bombing, OJ and Columbine.

Katrina had more direct impact on my life than 9/11.

For a bunch of Houston area people, Harvey would replace Katrina on impacting lives but that is the case for regional areas affected by storms or disasters. I remember 9/11 like it was yesterday and it was surreal for that day and the next since it was a mad panic to get gas and supplies, but generally speaking the panic died down by the following week and college football returned. However, air travel sucked but that didn't hinder the whole country like Corona has or did it kill people like this. I was just on the verge of making Desert Storm and that was a big deal in 1990 into 1991 and I would say if you or a family member got deployed post 2003, that would probably trump 9/11.

BTW this is another good time to mention how bizarre it is that the country has memory holed the 2017 Las Vegas shooting

Yep.

This didn’t hit me personally thank goodness, but that day and the ones following were crazy. I remember waking up in the wee hours of morning, maybe 2 or 3, and opening page 1 of that thread on here. It was just starting to get mention on the national news. I went back to sleep and awoke to craziness on TV.

The ensuing week was nuts. Conspiracy theories, interviews with the crazy brother, and a general lack of info about the whole thing.

The Question (for me) is flawed.

9/11 & COVID-19 aren't in my Top 3 or even Top 10

For me:

My Marriage
Kids being born
Kids getting married
Grandchildren being born
Parents passing
Sibling passing
Kids' successes
LSU Sports
Saints SB Win
Katrina

NOTE: The order is a bit wonky, it's hard to compare negatives & positives.

I was 17 on my last HS spring break and had come home from the beach 2 days early to watch. I drove back that night.

I remember that tournament starting with W awkwardly announcing we were about to bomb the shite out of iraq

You think Katrina and the BP Oil Spill only affected Louisiana?

I would also add for me that the end of the Vietnam War, Watergate, and the Iran Hostage situation were very important in my formative years.

Of what you had listed I would say the this situation is looking to be a top 2 along with 9/11.

The fall of the Berlin Wall as a symbolic move away from communism was probably more significant that it may get credit for being.

I've already listed the top three in my lifetime, but way above the current Covid-19 hysteria was the polio outbreak during my childhood.

1. Election of Ronald Reagan
2. Dissolution of the Soviet Union
3. 9/11
4. Election of Barack Obama
5. Election of Donald Trump - - CV19 being noteworthy is conditional on Donald Trump being President.
