Hundreds of thousands are going to starve over this.

Katrina had the most direct impact on me of all of these living in LA.

Covid is much more widespread obviously being worldwide at an unprecedented level in human history. There will inevitably be ripple effects we can’t even see yet in the wake of all this.
I’m astounded the idiots on here downplaying how big of an impact this will have long term. Many things are going to change as a result, period. That won’t be tomorrow, but gradually just like after 9/11.

Now this is definitely true. This will definitely have more long-lasting impact than anything besides 9/11.

Sorry, I was just conceding that as #1. Thought it was understood.

Gotcha.
Just making sure. I had friends growing up who acted like it didn’t matter because we didn’t live in NYC

I don't know where the Rona will rank. Probably pretty high if you lost your job or business.

It will be high for me since I’m at the major spot it’s been hit

It's very feasible that many millions will die due to our response to this. We are going to have meat shortages in the United States. What does that mean for world food supply lines? The US having food shortages is a complete disaster for the third world. While I don't think it will be anywhere near this high, it's estimated that as many as 150 million people may starve to death over this. I'm praying to god it doesn't reach the 8 digits, but it's a safe bet it will reach 7.

Two cities were nuked, countless others were completely flattened by bombings and that’s just what the US Air Force did.

WW2 completely shifted power in The world. It’s hyperbolic recency bias to compare the two.

I'm somewhat older than most, but here's my list:

Atomic bombing of Japan
Kennedy assassination
9/11

Those by far are the three biggest external events (my marriage to a great woman, two kids and her untimely death all rank higher than those events to me personally).

What do you think we're going to do with China after all this? This is going to see a massive shift in power. Maybe not on WWII levels, but this is certainly one for the history books.
