It never bothered me.

Can't comment much on the work environment out there (did one 3 month project there but they hired us) but the area is beautiful. Currently in Park City skiing and it's crazy to think all of this is just 30 minutes from downtown SLC.

I will tell you for a fact that within SLC city limits, the people are rather liberal/progressive. They've recently even had a lesbian mayor.
That being said, when I lived there, I found the people in SLC rather cool and fun to hang out with. You want to avoid the West Valley area when looking for a home.

Now Utah County (Provo) is a whole other story. You better be Mormon if you want to excel there.

What subset of IT are you in and what area are you moving from? The homes are not remotely cheap if you're coming from the deep South.

You’re in for a shock when you bring a lady home and see the Mormon underwear.

They do think they are better than non Mormons. Just a fair warning.
They're generally correct if they think this.

Check out the statistics.

e.g. Logan,Utah vs Bawcomville, LA.

What does LDS mean?

Do Mormons celebrate the traditional Christian holidays?

In SLC, you're just as likely to be working under atheists and SJW's as Mormons. All the big cities have been taken over by such. I can remember when the Mormons' biggest worry about SLC was all the Catholics moving into the city in the 70's and 80's. Now SLC is as woke as any other city.

The biggest myth as of late. Pertaining to Utah is it was founded by mormans from OHio.

SLC has a liberal mayor.! Non LDS are not looked down upon or the outcast at all. The former LDS on the other hand are looked down upon pretty bad.

Utah is an amazing place.

Born, raised in La. Lived in Utah most of 30 yr. Moved to Shreveport (ugh) 2 yr ago due to wife health reasons. Loved time in Utah. Lived Utah County (Provo) and Cache County (Logan). SLC very different from those 2 counties-less than 50% LDS compared to 90+% in those 2. Had some but very few issues, either with kids/schools/neighbors or work. Gov't still dominated by LDS but think you'll find discrimination while not absent, very minimal and situation-specific. SLC voted most homosexual-friendly city in US few years ago and the med school preferentially admits non-LDS.

They did their best to convince me to take a position in New York City until I made it clear that there was zero chance I would move to NYC.

It sounds weird, but SLC isn't chock full of mormons. I saw a ton of rainbow flags when I was out there.

Places South of SLC? North of "the point of the mountain" the Draper benches are best but very pricey. West out to Daybreak or Harriman is cheaper. South of that, Bluffdale is growing, Eagle Mountain is nice, but prices are still fairly high. Overall, you can't go wrong. There are no true bad areas here. Only less desireable areas.

Is it one piece? Can they remove it or do you have to work around it?

Don't come here. It's terrible. It snows a lot. It's cold. There's nothing to do outside. Mormons are strange.

SLC is insanely nice. Denver is the only other place I’ll live...
