I have a great job offer in SLC (Information Technology).

How are non LDS treated in the work place?

Do non LDS face any kind of discrimination when it comes to promotions?

They flew me out for interviews and I really like the area.

I just didn't want to find out the hard way that it would be a case of "we love your engineering skills, but management is reserved for LDS".

If you are just an IT nerd you will be treated just like all the other IT nerds. Good luck trying to start a business in Mormon country while not being part of the community.

On the surface you cant tell you have to look hard as the opportunities for advancement and more money are greater for LDS. Otherwise its not bad as I worked for a company in SLC for five years and actually loved it. The company had thirty or so employees and ten we non LDS. THE owner liked me to help close deals as bourbon and cigars were always part of the equation.

I worked for a couple of Mormons in Idaho. They will try hard to convert you. The top guy was very nice. His younger brother was a dick and pretty much ruined my experience working at the last firm. He was trying to make a name for himself with his brother and didn’t listen to my suggestions based on my 25 years of experience. Needless to say, I left after a couple of months for a better position.

They do think they are better than non Mormons. Just a fair warning.

I haven't had any issues. Most of my coworkers here in Utah are not from Utah.

You seriously have nothing to worry about.

Thanks for the information.

Job is south of SLC.

What areas would you recommend?

I was considering Sandy/Draper down to Lehi/Saratoga Springs/Eagle Mountain.

I'm leaning Draper or Lehi.

4 down votes on an OP asking about life in Utah.

This place is pure gold.

The majority of posters here live in Louisiana and are stuck there. It's jealousy.

Mormons are only a plurality in SLC.

They generally see everyone as a future member. Good people. I enjoyed my visit to Provo.

I work with people from the area who are non Mormon. No issues at work typically but the entire rest of the community shuns you. Kids won’t invite your kids to parties. Youth sports tends to split as well.
