How bad was the flooding? You saying that whole area along 98 mostly avoided major damage?
I’m not there and can only see what my cameras show but the water never got to the dunes on the beach. As of 2:30, my neighbor said there has been no flooding along scenic 98. She said there was some water that crossed the road in Destin near the point but that area is pretty much flat.
Everywhere north of the bay is going to have some issues as the rivers will be slow to drain.

The heaviest rain from Sally still hasn’t made it to Mtgy, but in the last hour we are receiving several reports of trees down. Mtgy now has roughly 4300 TS-related power outages. Traffic lights @ some intersections are flashing, remember to treat these as stop signs

Some friends are supposed to travel to SanDestin tomorrow. Opinions?
Depends on where they are coming from. They could have a rough drive and some detours but once they are there they will have no problems.
Who ever said don’t has no clue what they are talking about.

28 inches inside. They were able to prep pretty well, freezer fell over and she was trying to get all the food bagged and out, she remembers "Ivan Fridges". Boat is a little dinged but made.
They have a condo in Gulf Shores near Sea n Suds, said all seems well there.
Hate to hear that but glad that they were able to get some things out already. Just the refrigerator contents is huge. Can they stay at the condo in Gulf Shores? Hoping that they have flood ins.
Hope whatever you have at Seaside is ok.

Yes ma'am, made it home Sunday. Had a couple of days at home. Shipped out around lunch heading back down to the Gulf for Sally.

Wasn't Katrina a Cat 1 when it first made landfall before circling back out into the gulf and re-forming?
I don't believe Katrina ever circled back into the Gulf. The remnants of Ivan did and became a tropical storm again making landfall near the Louisiana/Texas border.

The fact is it’s extremely hard to predict some if these storms,
Exactly. Saying they missed seems to be like you’re implying that failed at their jobs. If you hit .300 in baseball you’re an all star.

It was a Cat 1 yesterday with little expectation it would get to a Cat 2 AND dump so much rain. We got 21” or more in Destin and so did parts of 30A. She dumped a ton of rain
It was predicted to move slow and dump a shite ton of rain even when it was still headed for nola. Yesterday morning they were predicting record rainfall almost to Birmingham.

They failed to measure up to the high standards they set over the last few decades. But they acknowledge the lack of confidence in their forecasts for Sally. They swung the bat and did the best they could under the circumstances.
IMHO, the unexpected strengthening when it jumped ftom 60 or so to 100 Monday grew the storm taller than expected causing the easterly flow to be stopped by shear from the west which stalled the system unexpectedly sooner than they estimated.
At that time the two competing flows offset each other. When the hurricane loststeam the easterly flow gained a slight advantage, and when the hurricane regained strength the westerly flow gained an advantage and it went more East.
Sally’s overall strength helped dictate its path and the NHC openly admits they are not as good as predicting intensity as they are the track.

The water on the beach side is still over the roads and lower level parking lots. Why would you try to travel there right now?

Awesome. Best wishes for him and all of his coworkers.

The following bridges are closed due to storm-related damage: Interstate-10 Bridge, Bob Sikes Bridge, Garcon Point Bridge, and the Pensacola Bay Bridge.
Garcon Point Bridge was struck by a barge and the barged is lodged underneath it.
Bob Sikes Bridge/399 has suspected structural damage and undermining and will not be reopened anytime soon as well.
There are currently EIGHT (yes 8) runaway construction barges running loose in Pensacola Bay that were working on the 3 Mile Bridge Project.
