Probably is, but that is why we invented commuting. You can work in the North Dallas/Collin County area and live in Anna

commuting over an hour for 1200 sqft. I'd rather be house poor

If you don’t use google maps and just remember all the street names, you can go with the low bandwidth internet on phone and only pay 30 a month

Kudos. Not sure what the deal is with that house but it does not appear to be a total shite hole.

However there have been only two houses sold in that neighborhood in the last year, both were last month for $227k and $219.5k. The one you linked has been on the market since March so I am guessing there could be issues.

Yep. Another thing that is frequently glossed over in these threads. People will find a property that is significantly below market, but has been for sale for like 8 months. Clearly it's undermarket and unsold because it's a massive piece of shite no one wants to frick with.

you know what my dad would have done to own a lake house? work hard, no coffee or craft beer just to buy one. We are bitching about god gifting us one

This is the way . Spent 3.5 years traveling to different locations in USA and Europe, 98-01. Different location almost every week. Nothing but Nokia and directions printed off from mapquest. Those were the days of not being tracked by big brother

There is a generation that was able to do it on one income. Did Dad have to bust his arse? Sure. But it was possible.

Yup. My dad's parents married when they were 18. Dad was born a little over a year later and my aunt a couple years after that. My grandfather was a full-time student, played football in college (DIII), had a job, and my grandmother had to drop out of college to take care of my dad and aunt. She didn't work. They didn't have financial support from family either. This was the late 50's through early 60s so times were obviously different. But somehow they were able to buy a house and maintain a family with all of that going on.

Flash forward two generations later...a two income household with no kids has serious issues finding an affordable starter home. It's like older generations think younger people are entitled simply wanting to live a normal life like they did. I am so thankful we got our home when we did or we'd be SOL with the current housing market and current interest rates, and my wife and I do plenty well where that thought shouldn't even need to enter my brain. Hell, childcare for one kid alone is more than a home mortgage was not that long ago.

I've done the city life and the suburbs. Give me the suburbs all day. I rarely ever go to the city anymore and don't miss it at all.

Say what you will about Slidell but all jokes aside of you feel this is a bad deal to start off with, then you are part of the entitled problem

Would agree that cost of living (including student loans) play a significant role in them not being able to save money?
I don't know the answer to that...but the fact that in 2021, 66% of millenial renters hadn't saved a single dime (and 16% had saved less than $10k) might point to more than just cost of living and student loans...prior to 2020, cost of living was not high.

Until interest rates come down, renting makes sense for a lot of people.
