Wife and 1 year old on our way to the Carolina’s looking for a safe hotel to stay in the Birmingham area that’s not too far off the route.

Stayed in a place on the way here that had a garage with security but the price is Over $300 now when it was a little over half on the way in.

Not familiar with the area so any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Have a car full of items (mostly for our 1 yr olds 1st Christmas from family) I’d prefer to not get stolen.

Merry Christmas everybody

Southern suburbs - Vestavia, Homewood, Hoover are fine. I'd suggest a few downtown but you seem like you are looking for a cheap'ish option

Both before and after Birmingham proper, you’ll see a million Marriott’s and Hilton Garden Inns right off the interstate. With Birmingham, what you see is what you get. If it looks like a safe area, it is.

Birmingham has some very nice areas around the city but the city proper is certainly a mixed bag. Shouldn't be difficult to find something decent for a family to spend the night though.

Pretty much any holiday inn express off the interstate will be in a decent part of town. They usually don’t built in the ghetto

Plus, there's the added benefit of becoming an expert in something just by staying there.

The safest hotel will be one that’s not in Birmingham

We went to gatlinburg for thanksgiving and stayed in pell city instead of Birmingham. No complaints here, although I don't know if it's safer, but I felt better and it was cheaper than downtown bham

Sarcasm not detected

I've been married to a gump for 20 years who's from Birmingham so although I've never lived there I'm pretty familiar with the area for a corndog.

Worth the drive to Hoover or trussville to be honest. I live about an hour north east of B-ham and I don’t even like parking my truck when I have to go there.

Stayed Colonnade Parkway 6-8x no problem. Typically best rates.

Also stayed downtown but it is a bit sketch.

We’ve stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn at Liberty Parkway several times. Never an issue. It’s on 459.

For the most part, don't stay on the west side of town once you pass I-459.

Downtown is good. South of town most anywhere along 459 is good. NE of town on 59 is good after you pass the Roebuck exit. East of town on 20 is good after Irondale. North of town is good from Fultondale and beyond.

This. I avoid B-ham like the plague.
