Neither. Every time I see one of those 13.1 stickers, I think "well that's cute." It's like you're bragging that you read half a book.

I thought I would too. Maybe some day, but I've lost that desire for the time being.

Got a guy who runs masters usatf and at practice he just runs everyday for like three hours and is the happiest guy I know.

Some people love it and can do it. I'd die.

I hunt, fish, play golf, drink and some weeks I log 30-40 miles. That's with a wife and two kids thrown in there.

My 26.2 sticker looks a little different. If and when I do a half iron, I'll put a 70.3 sticker too!

If you're running to stay in shape there's no reason to run that distance/week. It's terrible on your knees and other joints anyway. It's completely unnecessary.

Well, that's a "cute" observation. I am sure if someone that makes twice as much as you saw your bank account they would think, '[w]ell, that's cute. Nothing like working 1/2 a week.'

People that run 1/2 marathons are doing a helluva lot more than a lot of others. Many people give them those stickers because it's an accomplishment.

Nothing like being dismissive of a pretty major accomplishment that many people will never have enough drive to ever accomplish, but you continue on being dismissive of those accomplishments.

I'm in marathon training for Chicago right now. I usually average between 55-65 mpw. I usually run two speed workouts through the week. The rest of my runs are about 1 minute slower than marathon pace or slower.

Any tips for beginners? I've been running daily [rest on Sundays] for almost 4 weeks now.

Just run as often as you can. If your running to either get in shape or stay in shape 15-20 miles a week with atleast 3 miles in each session is plenty. I find it's best to use a heart monitor in the beginning to find a zone where you're working hard. It's tricky in the beginning, its easy to think you're over exerting yourself when in reality your heart rate hasn't moved much at all. If you use a heart monitor you will be able to verify if the running is really hard or if your mind is trying to take the easy way out. Once you find your zones you can ditch the monitor and just run.
