You should trade those short shorts and brooks in for some spandex and dmt's

CAD, what's your method for training for a long ride? Like a century?
I have a few months, and am trying to figure it out.
just get on the bike.
hit group rides on the weekends (if you can)
try to do some efforts (any climbs in your areas?) during the long rides and recover/keep going.
by efforts = riding as hard as you can comfortably for 3 of so minutes, then back off. try to do 3 or 4 of those during a 40-50 mile group ride.
centuries are usually pretty easy with all the rest stops along the way assuming you're not doing Cherohala or 6 Gap.
where is the century?
honestly, you could get in shape for a century in as little as 3-4 weeks of riding 15-20 miles a day and 50+ on the weekends.

Not many hills on my week day stuff, but can manage to find some on the weekends. I do a handful of efforts every ride so I'll keep that up.
Galveston Texas. It's a loop around the Galveston bay. . Day 1 is 94 miles, but my buddy and I decided we'll do 6 miles prior to make sure we can officially say we did a century. Day 2 is 80 something. The wind off the bay/gulf is going to be absolutely brutal.

I ran 126 miles in March and 72 in April.... Since then I've run like 20
Posted on 6/30/14 at 10:57 am to NOLALGD
I run 12-15 per week typically.
I rode 56 yesterday. Does that count?

I'm sure when you were doing those miles you were competitive and fast, and also looked like a runner. Unless someone has a metabolic problem or eats and drinks like a hog you are going be phenomenal shape running that much.
It seems every other runners in some threads claim that type of mileage, some of that seems hard to believe.
And how exactly do you know what everyone on here who runs looks like?

Shut even when I was running a lot (80+ miles a month) a didn't look like a runner

I run around 24 miles a week. 6 miles 4 days a week.

I'm 52 and I run 3-4x per week, 3-4 mi each time.
That's enough to keep me in good shape and still have enough time to have a life.
YMMV.
(ha-ha, I kill me.)

I am 3 weeks into my first marathon training program. To this point, it has been around 25 miles per week. This week is 30 miles with some sprints and some accels mixed in the shorter runs. I ran 100 miles on the nose in May, will be at 109 for June after my 4 miles tonight. July is scheduled for 148 miles.
Before this program, I was averaging about 60 miles per month. Lots of short runs. My training program calls for 1-2 days off per week with one of the "rest" days being an optional cross-training day. I usually ride a bike 15-20 miles on my cross training day.
I look nothing like a runner. I'm 6'3" 220 with a spare tire around my waist. Something that has always been there. It's funny to see the looks on the faces of people that underestimate me by the way I look.
I'm pretty goofy looking too. Rocking my LeSweatband with my receding hairline on my runs.

get in a group. find the 'smoking section' aka the very center of the group, and you'll never feel the wind.
eta good luck. you'll do just fine. its amazing how easy it is to ride 100 miles when you're in a group chatting with people.

1) because your body learns to conserve energy while repeatedly performing the same task, so they can run longer while burning less calories per mile. Also, you don't burn nearly as many calories as the fitness cabal would have you believe.
2) they aren't running, they be jogging

Excellent point also.

Running around 30-40 a week right now. Wanting to get in gear in coming months to where I was in 2009-2010, which was between 60-90 miles/week.

If the only cardio I do is running that week, then I get in about 20-25 miles. But I typically rotate between insanity one day, and running the next. Keeps me from getting too bored with my cardio, and I get two completely different forms of exercise. My typical runs are about 5-6 miles at 9-10 minute miles.
