The quality varies pretty wildly from store to store

There’s one in mandeville that’s great

oh so wrong. As far as cheater Louisiana foods, Jambalaya Girl really can't be beat. The jambalaya, gumbo and pastalaya seasoning are all second to none

There prices have gone through the roof! I thought I would never see the day I rather go to the dreaded Walmart but I have made the change due to Rouses pricing. shite unreal and on top of that they are always out of stuff so I have to end up going other places anyway.

Plus their Liquor selection is piss poor. All the good shite gets sent to Donnys house and he give it to all his hand picked “friends”

In general, any market bought by Rouse’s is shite compared to any they built themselves.
The old Schwegmann's on David Dr and Kawannee is one of the nicest Rouse's in NOLA metro IMO

When I lived in the area, the Rouse's on Power in Metairie was phenomenal. I worked there back in the day and it was a test store for any new products they were shelving or store upgrades like the gourmet popcorn stand they have in there now.

Must be localized cause the Rouses I go to around BR are great.

Do what??! I refuse to go there anymore. Where do I begin?
1. Their coolers are either not sealed properly or they run them at a lower temp than other places. The produce in the coolers always has brown spots and are wilty, and the meat is grey/brown rather than red. I've even been at the drusilla location when the entire cooler stunk of rotting meat.
2. The produce has fruit flies buzzing around them. And they are old - buy a bag of onions. They'll be some soft as shite. Guaranteed.
3. Twice I've bought live crawfish from them - Burbank and Long Farm Rouses. Both times the Sacks were dirty as shite and half dead. Another sign that their coolers just aren't up to par.
4. At some Rouse's locations I have had to go find someone to go find someone to come work the butcher counter and get me some non-grey meat
5. Across all Rouses the bakery sucks. Specifically the bread selection.

I can keep going. That's the most dog shite arse grocery store in Baton Rouge. Alexander's, Calvin's, Albertson's... shite, the Winn Dixie on Siegen. All better.

The biggest trend I've noticed at Rouse's is how many store brand items they've started selling. Some things I will buy because I don't think it's lesser quality than name brand but at the smaller Rouses (FQ, Baronne) the name brand is shoved out in lieu of store brands and you have no choice.

Seems to me like it is a couple of things. Maybe someone with an inside knowledge can share.

1) Rouses seems to run a very decertailized model, with a lot of decisions up to local store management. There doesn't seem to be much of a "regional" management level.

So if a store has strong store management, it is a well run, clean, well stocked store. If it has bad local store mangement, look out.

2) I think their growth of taking over stores/chains, as opposed to more new store builds, is hurting their ability to function well.

Again, all these different store size / models / what they carry is putting more decisions on the local store maangers, which, see above.

I always hoped their end game was being acquired by HEB or Publix.

This x100. When Leblanc's built the new Frais Marche' on Airline, that place was awesome. The salad bar & hot bar were top notch, and I would eat there several times a week for lunch or supper, breakfast even. After Rouse's bought out Leblanc's, the prepared food went to absolute shite. The bakery is still decent, but the salad bar & hot bar are usually terrible.

Exact same story at Drusilla. Can't say it enough. They gradually quit doing, or got rid of everything that made Leblanc's great.

Alot like many stores in N.O they are probaly dealing with
alot of theft. The Demacrats in the Big Easy have run off many businesses especially in the East. Some people in the
city just don`t CARE about other people except themselves.
Stealing is a right of passage to the democratic community.

East causeway is good/great.
West causeway is nice as far as renovated but very dysfunctional. Maybe in another year after we get used to where everything is it will seem better.

I would have to agree with the subject title.. downhill. It has been on a slow decline for some time. After a career I. Marketing & sales, you notice things that most do not. For a few weeks a couple of years ago, there were obvious non rouses employees surveying the store.
A few weeks later, these guys are walking the store with the management. Over the next few months, the merchandising began to change. A stack of shelves began to appear in any possible space. What used to be an open, easy to maneuver store is now crammed in every possible way. Post already block some of the checkout isles, so put a rack of chocolate against it.
They have replaced so many products with their Rouses brand products, I have many times thought I have to find another store. Their produce used to be the best in the area, no longer.
If it wasn’t for their bakery, and my sweet tooth, I would be long gone.

I've always found the Rouses that are built from scratch are way better run than the Rouses that are converted from other stores. Namely: all of the old LeBlancs stores for sure

The few I go to near Baton Rouge are still great. Clean and well staffed. Good beer selection as well.
