because that is a ridiculous statement
I'm not talking about my personal musical preferences. I am talking about the genre as a cultural phenomenon.

When I said only band was Foo Fighters, I was referring to the songs/bands in the top 25 that was posted
I liked NIN back in the day. They weren't a band I regularly listened to, but I enjoyed their music when it came on
Yeah, I know. But The White Stripes, The Strokes, The Killers and U2 were also in the top 25.

One of my best friends is almost 10 years older than me and you can really tell the generational difference
His two favorite bands are U2 and The Police (and Prince), while mine are from the grunge and alt rock era
Speaking of which, has there been any MASSIVE band that has been less culturally relevant right now than U2? Kinda bizarre

That Emo era was a massive cultural phenomenon and was dominating MTV and the charts

Rock was huge culturally in the early 2000s through the early 2010s.

I'd argue the "best" rock band of the last 30 years was RHCP, but they never really reached the heights of pop culture the way Nirvana did.
Man, no. frick no

Whether you like them or not, My Chemical Romance has been culturally relevant. Green Day has been culturally relevant. The White Stripes, The Strokes, Fall Out Boy, Blink 182, etc.
Again, we're not talking personal preferences.

Rock was still dominating in the early 2000s and there were a lot of great rock songs on the teen angst and comedy movies from that era as well.
Some of them were one-hit wonders, but the fact that those movies were so relevant and the soundtracks were pretty good tells you that rock music was still a cultural phenomenon.
BTW, speaking of rock soundtracks, I have always thought that Drown by The Smashing Pumpkins was sort of lost on the Singles soundtrack. Coincidentally, I was listening to it just now while working and posting.

They just got old.
They inaugurated the Sphere in Vegas just 3 years ago.

RHCP's best song is Soul to Squeeze from the Coneheads movie
BTW, the Dave Navarro era of RHCP showed us that without John Frusciante, RHCP would have never been as big as they were.

You have terrible taste. I love the list, but it’s not going to appeal to mainstream music listeners very much.

Just listened to the first 10 songs on the list.
Not gonna lie.... 99 Problems is probably, lyrically, the best of the group.

This list is dogshit for a band that has some bangers.
They need to go listen to The Bends

at least put the best Geese song on the list
which is obviously Au Pays du Cocaine
Agree on that.

MGMT, Arcade Fire, The Killers, Imagine Dragons, Death Cab for Cutie. "Last 30 years" would also include most of Weezer and the Foo Fighters. Also includes acts that are primarily rock or rock-adjacent like Linkin Park.
Don't have to like their music but to say it's been culturally irrelevant is asinine.

Yeah that doesn't matter. "Old" bands become relevant with younger gens all the time.
Fleetwood for instance.
Alice in Chains right now is EXTREMELY relevant with Gen Alpha for whatever reason.
But U2 has just...disappeared as to cultural relevance

Man they love a pop punk little dong don’t they.
Posted on 10/28/26 at 10:42 am to Fun Bunch
all it takes is one viral TikTok to make them relevant again
