I'm for growth and development typically but it simply gotten out of control and needs to be reigned in because we are just now beginning to see the negative effects of it and it's already bad. It's only going to get worse. You can't put the toothpaste back in the tube.

This seems like uncontrolled, unregulated growth.

It's kinda ironic that the Northshore is full of right wing types who hate government and regulation, but now that they don't like the result of a lack of regulation, they want government to step in.

The only answer is another bridge and that aint happening. Hopefully the I-12 expansion provides some relief.

Another bridge over the Tchefuncte will sadly never happen, due to the number of residents whose property would be impacted. I think the best long term answer is to build a bridge heading north/south that would reach land south of Hwy. 1085 and Hwy. 22, and connect to them just west of Guste Island. There is very little residential impact on this line south of 22. It could either connect to the existing Causeway bridge, somewhere around the 15 mile marker, or just have it run all the way south and connect to Williams Blvd.

This would prevent all of the commuters who live west of the Tchefuncte from needing to travel through Mandeville on Hwy. 22. It would obviously need to be a toll bridge/road. You could raise the existing toll on the Causeway another couple of dollars to offset the revenue it would lose to the new bridge.

WTF is all that additional money being used for?

That's my point... the tax money raised due to development should be used to offset the negatives of that development.

That doesn't seem to be happening here. It's just getting worse and worse.

Add the fact that St. Tammany has one of the highest property tax rates in the state (I believe, right below Orleans Parish) and that begs the question of where is this "extra" money being spent.

Not really. Any sociopolitical construct can be bad if taken to the extreme.

There has to be something done to curb the traffic problem especially on 22 in the Madisonville area.

I have a low cost - high reward solution. From 3-6 pm, Monday - Saturday, have a cop at the intersection directing traffic to keep it flowing.

Immediate impact/improvement, no construction, no studies, no need to tax and “fix”. If I’m somehow wrong on this solution, then we’re right back where we started without spending a fortune.

There's not many short term solutions to solving the traffic on Hwy 22 except adding an additional lane Eastbound from the bridge to the West approach. And that's no easy task.

That whole area just sucks. I avoid it all costs.

The bridge will continue to be the problem, regardless of the frequency which it opens to marine traffic.

Covington and Mandeville were small towns. Not so much any more.

They are still small towns, 13,000 and 11,500. Most people live outside the city limits.

bullshite.

He is not wrong. The only big industry in St Tammany are Developers and Home Builders. Fewer homes being built will put a lot of subs out of business.

Dude I promise you no one is hurting for work. Me and everyone else have spent months trying to find contractors and subs and they’re all too busy to even look at jobs.

They just don't want the government to tell them what to do, but if people do what they don't like then its different.

It used to be that when it rained heavt you had minimal flooding because the water could flow to the creeks and rivers. With dumb development that water gets trapped.

There really shouldn’t be two opposing sides to this situation. Most of the builders live in the same place they build. They should want the infrastructure to support years of development. Roads, schools, and land are just maxed out around parts of st Tammany. They need to point them in a direction that’s not over saturated while fixing the current problems instead of letting it be exacerbated by more home building
