I watch Rolex repair videos. It's cool to watch but so tedious.

Kind of shows you how bad American colleges have failed. They take in taxpayer dollars, hire endless administrative staff, and prioritize cash loaded international students. And the students come out with no jobs and no hands on experience in their field.
Are you under the impression that Ivy League schools have watchmaking programs?

I've seen better watches in the Quad.

“And so far, the training has driven fierce competition among professionals looking to take a career leap; in 2024, more than 560 candidates applied to the Rolex program’s 27 open spots. That’s a 4.82% acceptance rate—nearly as competitive as getting into Harvard University.”
This is not accurate. Only 4.82% COULD be accepted, given those numbers. We can't know the acceptance rate without knowing how many offers they made - and certainly they made more than 27.

Colleges didn’t fail; people duped themselves and their children into thinking that a university education was something that it wasn’t and never was: a job training curriculum.

Not this one, but we looked into it a little bit…we went to Paris Junior College in Paris TX
That could easily be it as well. Cool to see someone follow this dream.

Rolex just opened a trade school for watchmakers in Texas.

Accurate or not, that’s how college acceptance rates are calculated.

“the Rolex building”
They must make a hell of a lot of profit on those watches.

Accurate or not, that’s how college acceptance rates are calculated.
For colleges, it's the number of those accepted divided by the number of applicants. The story makes no mention of how many were accepted.

I’ve put a watch on my arm, could have been me

There’s a huge shortage of people who know how to repair nicer watches.

Thank goodness no OT anti-education zealot got to me when I was a kid. I might be an old sore-back, busted knees appliance repairman or plumber instead of a college educated white collar guy sitting in the AC.
