Youtube TV is starting to piss me off, i love the layout and ease of use but they keep raising the price and giving nothing in return and now a dispute with Roku.

Hopefully this is just bluffing by both sides to eventually come to a deal and hopefully this does not yet again give youtube tv an excuse to raise the price of service

ROKU and YouTube TV need to chill

YT was great in its glory days. Now, it's ads galore. Before a video there 1/2 ads. Then the ads in 5 seconds. The worst part is that the ads would come out of nowhere in mid sentence. Can't fast forward with ads. Can't go back without ads. Totally ruins the watching experience. And the ads themselves just make you angry...."square pillows", "mcdonalds crispy chicken sandwich", "excercise burn calories, not fat", "make 800% return selling on amazon". I hope a new competitor pops up and take away some of their market share.

To be fair Roku devices are some of the worst at making calls out and for privacy in General. So it's basically two pots calling each other black kettles.

Love how these companies always blame each other in these spats.

I THINK as long as you already have the app on your device you're ok. Same thing happened with the Spectrum App but it was only removed from the App Store, you could still use it if it's already on your device.

I am amazed that Roku is standing up for users rights and not having your search results manipulated and the OT's answer is "go get a chromecast"

I am amazed that you think Roku is "standing up for users rights".

The only reason Roku does this is because it makes financial sense.

Yes, a bunch of grand standing in finger pointing. The tech companies have been stealing our data for years, it is how they cash in. Between our cell phones and emails and devices we are all already compromised anyway. Neither company cares about our privacy beyond their own liability

This is simply about money as it always is

We had YTTV for the live content, but they kept upping the price. At $65 a month, there just isn’t a whole lot they are offering that you can’t get on other streaming services.

I already have Hulu, Disney+, Netflix, and HBO Max. By the time you tack on another $65 to that bill it’s well over $100 which might as well be a cable tv subscription.

You can find a live stream of just about any sport, news channel, etc on the internet now for free. Just do that and mirror my computer to one of my Roku devices if it’s something I wanna watch live.

Got that same email as well. I’ve really enjoyed having my roku tv and just having to download the YouTube tv app onto it. Hopefully they’re able to come to an agreement that’s good for everyone.

Yeah, this is where my head is.

Aside from Live sports, the really quality content is on specific streaming platforms and you don't know the release date until a month or so beforehand.

Tom Segura was on Rogan a couple weeks back and I think he made a solid point about the direction of comedy and how the creators are seeing a larger piece of the pie by completely bypassing networks, sometimes even opting out of platforms altogether. I saw it the other day when I wanted to listen to Louis CKs most recent stand up special. I went directly to his website and paid $8 to download his show to my hard drive. No subscription service, no extra upsell, no BS. Just his special, exactly what I wanted.

You're an idiot if you think Roku is doing it to stand up for user's rights. I'm sure the truth is somewhere in the middle of Google and Roku's stories.

we're with pluto (free,) disney/hulu/espn+, prime, and hbo max. then we do sling for sports and keeps it all under $75ish.

for live, i only really care about CFB and CBB. my wife wants tennis. the only times i can really pause my account is Apri-late may, June, and August. not worth pausing it for 4 months a year but sling is price locked unlike YTTV and hulu.

Get an Apple TV. If you already have an iPhone it's a no-brainer.

And it is going to continue to get higher and higher as more and more networks create their own streaming platforms and pull their content from existing services.

Eventually, we will see a company launched (or an existing company, likely) that takes all these individual network platforms and puts them into one handy system where you will have access to them all. That system will be tiered and you can choose which networks you want. You will be able to add or remove services. It will be one convenient monthly fee for all your television viewing experience. Or......you know, cable.

I think you are misunderstanding the issue. ROKU just won't have the Youtube TV app on their ROKU streaming devices. Many other streaming device brands out there you can use to still get Youtube TV.

That said, almost all my TV and devices are ROKU. I may switch to ATT TV. Love not having a contract.
I understand perfectly. I was assuming you didn't want to switch all your devices to AppleTV or Firestick or whatever.

It's all six of one and a half a dozen of the other at this point. Even if you don't have a cable contract, you have a contract with the ISP that allows you to stream cable content.

I use FuboTV. It's amazing, especially as a sports fan.
