Someone kicked up some mystery thing on the highway, and it left a series of nice dings on the passenger side of my truck. It hit like a ton of bricks, but it looks like something metal hit and possibly "rolled" a couple times. Pissed me off, but could have been worse. When I pulled over to check it out, I expected some real damage.

A bunch of years ago, I was driving down the road, and a huge tree limb fell from high up in a tree, and the heavy end landed on the passenger side windshield. It came straight thru the glass, and bent my roof and a-pillar. Thank buddah I didn't have anyone in the SUV with me that I was driving.

Co-worker had a friend DIE due to a tire hitting their car.

You always think it's a wreck that will get you, how many people worry about a lug nut coming off and nailing you between the eyes?

I may have run over a beached whale on LA1. But it could also have been someone named Gravy.

Yes. Totaled the car. The alien-like creature waddled away unscathed. Tow truck driver and local cops thought it was hilarious.

A friend was in Guatemala and had a piece of metal come off a truck and through their windshield. His mom had to go to the hospital and someone stole their luggage out of the car while they were in the hospital.

A road gator got me a few years back. The truck in front of me kicked it up, I couldn't dodge it, and it got my front bumper, rolled all the way under and clipped the back bumper. It managed to knock my tag off. Despite the terrible sound, and me expecting the worst, it didn't do any mechanical or body damage. It did get me stopped and a warning for improper display of tag about a week later, though.

Never had any debris hit my car but I have had rocks kicked up and damage my windshield a few times. The last time it happened, the little star it left took about a week before it spidered half my windshield. Had to get it replaced. Safelite tried to bait and switch me, don't use them. Also had a deep pothole take my muffler off once.

On the I-10 bridge over the Sabine River a railroad crosstie bounced off a truck in front of me - I could not avoid it and it blew out both left side tires.

This was in the days before cell phones - I drove on the rims to get off the bridge and then had someone call a tow service in Orange Texas.

18 wheeler tire on interstate. It was raining and car in front of me moved at the last second so I didn’t see it until my only choice was to either hit the tire or spin out on the wet road. I hit the tire. Tore up my front end and cut the wheel well to the point it was rubbing my tire. Had to pull over and give it the old duct tape treatment to get it home.

I ran over a full size aluminum ladder once at 75 MPH in a low profile car. Didn’t mess anything up. Definitely lucked out.

Semi in front kicked up wind (or tire clipped it) and dragged out and ice chest from side of the road.. in one of the places with concrete barriers on both sides of road….was driving a car with a low profile…tore up front bumper …grill etc…all that stuff in the bumper is integrated with self leveling lights..cooling motors etc…thank goodness for insurance…I am on the highway a lot and there is a lot of hazardous stuff out there on lanes and sides…

I was driving over the Sunshine bridge in a heavy down pour one time and a sheet of tin flew off of a trailer in front of me, went across my hood, broke the wind shield and continued down the drivers side scratching everything in it's path. Another time, just as you joked, a big truck lug nut hit my windshield on I-110, on the passengers side thank God and left a big hole.

Yep. A piece of sheet metal flew off a work truck and went up underneath my car and ruptured the radiator a few years ago. I was 2 hours from home on a work trip when it happened. Had to rent a car to get home because it was a few days before Christmas and the repair shop couldn't get to it until after Christmas. My insurance ended up covering it all including the rental car.

About two years ago, someone kicked up a small plank of wood of some kind. Was more of a stake than anything else. Smacked the windshield of my truck and put a nice crack in it.

Literally hit the passenger side, still wondering if it could have pernitrated

Was driving out to the real estate attorney to close on our new house. I saw the car in front of me kick something up and a bunch of sparks. Then a huge piece of rebar hit my hood, bounced off after puncturing it and hitting the engine block, and flew over the roof of my car. If I had been traveling any closer that thing would have come through my windshield and impaled me.

Related, by the way.

Also, NSFW. Not because of gore or anything, but because you hear someone die.
