Thinking about coming home soon, but damn the pay sucks! What are y’all RNs making per hour and what do you do?

New grad rate is $24-26ish. Go work in the city and get endless OT. Might have to hustle a little and work weekends/nights and take advantage of diffs. You can easily make 100k even as a new grad if you want to hustle a little.

Really depends on how many years you have been a nurse and its higher pay in the ICU units at most nola hospitals. But yea the new grads are anywhere from 22.50 to 26.50 starting out. Lot of 5k-10k sign on bonuses. If you think that is low, BR is even lower. Definetly could be higher when you look at what other states pay their nurses.

Generally speaking the medical profession pays better for the crappier shifts in crappier areas. So yeah, that’s not surprising at all...

Assuming you are still in California, the laws are very much favorable for nurses in California as opposed to Louisiana. Collective bargaining, mandated nurse to patient ratios, higher pay. Louisiana doesn’t have any of that.

When I read “NM” I immediately thought of the 90% (or more) of NM that I would not live in.
And then to have to deal with that population in a clinical situation erryday?
That’s why the pay is greater there, it’s not altruism on the healthcare providers part.

That just her base rate? Or with all her shift diffs?
Average base rate here for RNs (not new grads)is $40-45/hr. Then add on all your shift differentials for nights, weekends, etc. Also goes up if you work ICU, ER, etc.
Most places here also paying an extra $10/hr to all staff working COVID units. Which is good considering AZ is seeing a massive increase in cases and COVID hospitalizations. We are seeing an 18% positivity rate of tests that are done(meaning 18% of all tests done are coming back positive....we were at 5-6% a month ago). My hospital just had to open up a third COVID unit yesterday cause our amount of COVID patients admitted has more than doubled in the past week. They have been scrambling to be able to staff it, other hospitals having the same issue. They can find more beds for the COVID surge....but finding enough nurses and providers to staff them is starting to become a challenge.
Look into travel assignments in AZ, might be opportunities for $$$$$$...we need nurses right now to help with our surge.

Why would you go back to Louisiana if you are an RN? My wife makes double the pay here in Dallas with pretty much the same cost of living.

My sister (new grad) just signed on to a hospital in NOLA at $25/hr with 3 guaranteed 12-hr shifts and one optional OT shift per week. They can also pick up shifts when posted for OT which happens all the time. If she works at least 1 OT shift a week, she can expect to gross somewhere north of 60k in her first year.

My sister makes around 80k here in Lafayette. She has about a decade of experience does put in overtime to get to that point.
