We have been out here since Dec 2003 (16.5 yrs) and we just feel it's time to come home to be near family (parents getting older) and old friends. It's a really hard decision. I work for Kaiser and make right at $80/hr and we are union. I work in a cancer clinic, haven't worked in the hospital in years. When I left Covington, I was working in a clinic and making $27 or $28/hr and I was just offered a job making $34.50/hr---things sure haven't changed much! SAD!

I did a travel contract in Lafayette at the general in ICU. They offered me 31.50 to go staff. I have over twenty years ICU experience. Thanks, no thanks
That was a year ago. Lourdes occasionally has jobs posted for 45/hr w/ no benefits. But I hear you are first cancel and your contract can be cut with little warning

Depending on where you live in California, your cost of living may be twice as much as areas of Louisiana

That's true, it's mostly relative. The exception may be in the central valley. Fresno/Clovis has a similar COL as Louisiana, much higher pay for RNs and the better nurse/patient ratios. All within a couple hours drive from Yosemite and the coast.

You aren’t factoring in night diff/ weekend diff. Many hospitals also have incentives for picking up when they are short. Then there is also something called clinical ladder that many hospitals have. I see all the downvotes, but the reality is I have made 100k + every year since my first full year as an RN going on 8 years now

It's certainly possible, but you have to hustle to do it, working extra shifts and nights. Ain't gonna happen working 3 12s.

She said she works 20 hours a week plus takes call.
Meaning she is on call at times. She didn’t say how long she is on call. Which means she is paid a certain rate to just be on call (whether or not needed)....then if she is called in....she gets $$$$ an hour while working on call.
Also....CA nursing unions (if I remember correctly from friends that have worked there...jenn can correct me)...make hospitals pay overtime for any hours worked past 8 hours in a shift. Meaning if she works a 12 hour shift....4 of those hours are at overtime pay.
So a nurse working 36 hours a week by working 3 12 hour shifts....gets 12 hours of that week paid at overtime rates.

We had a $10/hr incentive pay in ICU/ER where I work, but that only lasted a couple of pay periods.

Auburn/Grass Valley? I used to work in Grass Valley and hung out in Nevada City a bunch. Awesome place to live.

Sierra Nevada Medical Center was my first travel contact in January 2004. That’s why we fell in love with NorCal. Stayed there 11months.??
