Test drove a Rivian last weekend and it was really nice. Looks totally bad arse in person and the front looks more eccentric than retarded like it presents in photos.

Would seriously think of getting one if it were priced under 50 and had more range.

Waiting for the Cyber Truck to make my decision. They are supposedly 40k with 100 mile more range than the R1T.

I think their is a decent chance they are but it won't be in any of our lifetimes. This towing issue is just one problem. They need to also consider electric infrastructure and if a shitty power grid can handle it. What happens in major power outages such as hurricanes and noreasters. At some point in our future they will solve enough problems where it makes economical sense for the average Joe to buy a electric vehicle but I can't see that happening within the next 10-15 years like these wacko nuts believe.

My diesel truck will lose 10mpg easily if towing heavy vs unloaded. If you cherry pick your scenarios (babying unloaded vs towing heavy) is like 24mpg vs 8.5 mpg.

You towing a trailer house? And flooring it constantly?

However, Instagram user @gideontherivian took it into their own hands to prove range loss, which evidently resulted in a 62% degradation of the battery after just 118 miles of travel.

Buy Rivian stock now before it goes down any further.

Electric vehicles are the future
Well not for towing. Now if you want to drive into town to a Walmart or Lowes or Rouses, they are AOK.

Cool then don’t buy a Rivian. If you’re worried about people buying electric cars then I assume you’re the kind of guy who cares about what other guys wear. If electric trucks suck then nothing to worry about. If they’re good then ICE trucks will step up their game. WGAF

I mean the goal is to kill fossil fuels.

This is the goal no matter how much you say it isn’t. So yeah, you might not be paying at the pump anymore but you will be paying that fricking electric bill because the cost of entergy is and will go up.

Plus, majority of people cannot afford an ev even with government kickbacks.

Plus we don’t even have enough in production to meet Brandon’s goals.

So I do give a frick.

No truck loses 10MPG towing and I can fill my truck up in 5 minutes at a ton of different places.

Yeah, but that fill up, like I paid this morning was $100, and the charging stations are free. You just need 8 hours of free time.

So what your saying is more people will fly because it’s cheaper and takes less time than sitting at a charging station.

Guess we need to start on the electric planes.

It's a good thing you slugs weren't around when this came out. You all would have said it is useless and made jokes about how this technology would never replace your trusty old horse drawn wagon.

Did they ban horses from being used back then?

I’m going to go out in a limb and say no.

I would have been in the side of, if you have a perfectly good horse, use it until the new technology becomes affordable and the infrastructure is there to support it.

dash still showed 44 miles remaining. That’s 162 mile range.

Except DTE calculations are very optimistic, it would probably only get 30 miles of that last 44. Batteries do not lose power at a perfectly linear rate, the lower the charge gets the faster they fade.

You guys comparing mileage using weight are doing it wrong. Weight doesn't make that big of a difference going down the highway. Aero does.

A boat or car on a trailer doesn't have near the drag a camper or box trailer does.

I've pulled plenty of trailers and a car on a open car trailer hardly makes a difference going down the highway while an enclosed trailer feels like hitting a wall at about 50 MPH.

Hell, going into 4 cylinder mode at 60MPH towing an open trailer isn't unusual on a level highway. A box trailer it'll be showing 10mpg or less at the same speed.

An enclosed trailer loaded at 75mph will give me 8.5mpg. 2018 6.7 cummins with highway gears. Will get 24-26mpg empty at 60 mph on flat ground.

Pulling heavy un-aerodynamic stuff really fast requires lots of fuel. And thats where electric vehicles fall really short. I can drag that load from baton rouge to winter park in 22 hours. To do that with an electric vehicle, youd need 15k lbs of batteries.

Alternative fuel w/ storage for peak shaving is where its at. Pure battery has limited application in America.

diesel powered charging stations
I know those things are easy targets for jokes, but the reality is a gallon of diesel burned in that generator to charge an EV will drive it further than the same gallon burned in the engine of a similar diesel vehicle.
