And the ripple effect to other programs in the state and the SEC. it's all him. He changed it. One man. The way college baseball is for 98% of programs today, it would almost certainly be that here still today if not for him.

No doubt. Though Ron Polk deserves some credit for the rise of SEC baseball popularity too. Polk and Skip had a great rivalry between the two programs and from there SEC baseball took off and was molded into what we see today

Aw damn. Wouldn't want to think what our baseball program would be like had he never came. RIP Coach

Absolutely, Polk was drawing 2,000 to Starkville for baseball when everyone else in the country was drawing 100. But Skip really took it to another level.

So much so that some LSU fans think it's like it is at LSU now everywhere. But it's really still like it was before Skip got here at about 95% of schools in the country. What he did was amazing, unprecedented and special.

The GOAT label is terribly overused these days. But not when it comes to Coach Bertman. RIP GOAT.

RIP Coach.

Met him a few times when I was a kid at the free baseball clinics LSU would have. Always fun to get to play out on the field at Alex Box for a few hours.

Not to hijack this thread but Dawg ranters, what's the story re Polk leaving the program he built to go to UGA? A big thing I always liked about Coach Polk is that he was always such a competitor. Which made his games against Coach Skip so interesting
