I can’t find the clip of it for the life of me. But I’ve seen someone in comedy asked about why Norm wasn’t a bigger deal in show business.

The answer was along the lines of “he’s brilliant but the most unprofessional person in Hollywood. If you cast him as the lead of your sitcom, not only will he not show up to shoot the pilot, he may not even be in California on that day.”

Makes a lot of sense that Letterman would have tried to name him as his successor, though. He had a huge soft spot for Warren Zevon as well - another borderline genius whose career never ascended to the extent that his talent dictated, for almost exactly the same reasons that Norm’s never did.

Norm hosting the '98 ESPY's

"Congrats to Charles Woodson for winning the Heisman Trophy. That is something they can never take away from you, unless of course you kill your wife and a waiter."

Holy shite!

RIP, Norm. Top-5 ever IMO. A brilliant comic.

I’m going to tell you one thing though: Norm’s funeral is going to be the funniest fricking funeral since Graham Chapman’s. This is cancer so this just sucks, so it won’t be like Farley’s where Farley was a true tragedy. Every big comedian in the world will be there for it and even if they have political differences put them aside for Norm. This is like when the Queen dies except for comedy. I hope it’s broadcast. People besides Norm’s family that should speak:

Artie Lange
David Letterman
Conan O’Brien
Dave Chapelle
Bob Saget
Anthony Jeselnik
Roseanne Barr
Dennis Miller
Seth MacFarlane
Adam Sandler
Rob Schneider
David Spade
Jim Bruer
Chris Rock
Jeff Ross
Louis CK
Sarah Silverman
David Cross
Gilbert Gottfried
Jim Norton
Dave Attell
Adam Eget

Also there better be gambling there in Norm’s honor.

Norm discusses ventriloquism with Dennis Miller ON THE RADIO

Thanks for bringing him up. Dennis Miller needs to absolutely make a speech at his funeral.

But here’s a tweet from Better than Ezra:

We are saddened by the news of Norm Macdonald. He was a hilarious man and an absolute legend. Thankful to have been the inspiration behind one of the “Best Weekend Update Jokes of All Time,” according to the internet. Rest In Peace Norm, and may your jokes live on forever.

I don’t think Will and Norm were ever all that close. Norm has never been in a Will Ferrell movie as far as I’m aware. Everyone I posted is an actual friend of Norm’s.

I think their real difference is that Norm and Adam McKay didn’t get along, and Adam is behind almost all of Will’s films.

This one hurts. Hurts bad. Loved his sense of humor. Always made me laugh. Wish he would have said something about battling cancer before he died so everyone could have laid him the respect he deserves after being blackballed in his career.

RIP, ya dirty dog.
