Kip was always approachable and easy to engage in conversation. He had a genuine love for the city and its people. You never knew when he might show up to some event - and would often stay until the end. Baton Rouge felt unified under his leadership, which is quite an accomplishment in this day and age.

I’ve lived in Baton Rouge for almost 50 years and Kip was, far and away, the best mayor during my time here.
RIP KIP…

RIP to the GOAT. After Katrina he did his best to keep the lawlessness and lawless fleeing New Orleans from affecting BR.
It was a travesty that he wasn't elected Lt. Gov.

RIP to a good man and despite a lot of people working against him he was a good Mayor-President.

We would have a loop and possibly another bridge if it was Kip's call and the NIMBY Of Louisiana didn't ruin his grand plans.
It was amazing what he was able to pull off for Baton Rouge.
Good man. Kip.

A site full of supposed racists and now there will be a long thread honoring a black mayor that many supposed racists gladly voted for.....and would have voted for again and again if he would have been allowed to run.

Unexpected and RIP.
Na he had been sick for awhile, saw him 18 months ago and he looked bad.
But if you ever were in the City Club at 4:59 when he hit the door at 5pm sharp the mood in the room automatically changed. Just one of those rare people that was always "on", always positive, always making an effort to improve things.
RIP Mayor

Kip never met a stranger. If you ever met him, he went out of his way to brighten your day.

He did what he thought was right for Baton Rouge and Baton Rouge was better for it. A good man that will be missed.

Actually very sad to hear this. A good man and best mayor in my lifetime. Loved this city. Genuine and determined.
