Still depends on where you end up.

I wouldn’t wish Natchez or Jackson proper (NOT suburbs) on anyone.

Natchez

I thought people like Natchez

Ocean Springs and Hattiesburg are the two best cities to live in Mississippi in my opinion.

There are no jobs left unless you are in the health care or hospitality industries from what I have seen. Or work at a prison.

I liked Hattiesburg when I lived there but that town has gotten much bigger since Katrina.

You can commute to a few plants and larger employers but definitely not much IN Natchez for job opportunities.

Why don’t you opine about the actual article instead of belittling the author?

No sir. Stephanie Reigel's biases have destroyed any credibility and objectivity she pretends to carry into her writing. I don't give a frick what she's writing about now. Damage has been done for years now.

I’m in my mid 30s and I grapple with the idea of leaving the state everyday. I feel like I’ve squeezed every bit I can professionally out of the state, and to move forward professionally, I need to look elsewhere.

It’s definitely family and aging parents holding me back. Well, they aren’t asking me to stay, but I don’t want to leave them.

Mississippi and Alabama are now far past Louisiana in quality of life

Mississippi has a few decent things, but let's not get carried away

I've told all of my kids to go to Texas as soon as possible. I plan on following. Done with the weather, the crime, the drivers, high insurance, and all of the other things that make parents like me think this way.

I’m encouraging my high schooler to get out of the state for school. He won’t go to lsu with my blessing. And hopefully for him that means he stays out of state and I’ll be in a position to follow at some point. I have come to hate all form of politics these past 18 months. Louisiana’s politics make me sick.

But the reality is my argument for staying here is becoming weaker and weaker

100%. I was born and raised here, early 30s now. Growing up, BR was a decent place and crime stayed in north BR so it wasn’t bad. But the argument for BR was LSU home games (LSU has ruined that), close to NOLA (no thanks), crawfish/good food/easy going way of life but it’s all replaceable after the last couple years

I used to say I’d never leave South LA but once I don’t have family here, there’s no reason to stay

All thanks to dogshit leadership from JBE, Destroya and Broome who are all more worried about social justice and making their DNC overlords happy than improving quality of life

I left in 2001 because Louisiana lacked high paying job opportunities. I think the straw, though, was when I hit a pothole (slowly) in NOLA going home and it ripped the oil pan out from under my car.

This state has been fricked since Huey Long, one of the few States where many politicians run to get elected and get rich.

No broad based, diversified industries and economic opportunities for young people to build a secure future for themselves and families.

Think about this: the most prevalent TV advertising is for PI trail lawyers, a symbol of where our legal priorities reside. As in most things, follow the money get the answer.

Both parties throw red meat to their base, neither have coherent and achievable economic development policies. None. We’re dumb enough to care only about the red meat.

Need legislation favoring your business at the expense of the broader public interest? Contribute heavily to politicians and lobbyists then sit back and enjoy it’s a done deal.

And then we wonder why we’re almost dead last in every meaningful quality of life metric. Because it’s the other guys fault.

We’re it not for my kids and grandkids living here, I’d be back in suburban Houston enjoying retirement in a state that has its quirks but knows how to get things done.

Do I feel sorry for Louisiana? Some, but the public keeps voting for the politicians that perpetuate the system.

That’s never going to change its deeply imbedded in Louisiana’s DNA.

I have no idea what this means but I haven’t encountered the same problems in North Texas and I seriously doubt I ever will.

The epitome of this is the Formosa plant.

The company secured all the regulatory permits they needed yet we had a judge block it because of need for studies for environmental justice.

More like lining the pockets and securing political future on a national level.

I love my family and I still love some things about Louisiana. The longer I’m gone the more I realize there is no way in hell I’d ever move back.

Sad but true, I’m from South Louisiana and after I got my engineering degree from LSU, my dad told me to get the heck out of here, I soon moved to Houston (oil field) where I met my wife and now we have a great family, and now I don’t really ever plan on coming back anytime soon, if I need to get a taste of Louisiana, I’ll go party it up and get drunk in New Orleans for the weekend, and then quickly return back to Texas Sunday evening.
