Rhode Island Teachers Unions are Fighting For Their Right to Bang Students

Yesterday at a hearing for a bill (HB 5817) that would make sex between school employees and students a crime—even after they’ve turned 16, the legal age of consent in Rhode Island—both teachers’ unions made their objections known. NEA RI didn’t have anyone testify but … James Parisi of the United Federation of Teachers (UFT) did testify. …
As it currently stands, Rhode Island is one of a few states where it is perfectly legal for teachers and other school employees to have sexual relations with their students once they turn 16. . …
Parisi expressed that the UFT’s opposition to the bill lies mostly in the fact that it singles out school employees. He wonders why “store managers” aren’t included. …
Parisi also claims that this isn’t really a problem here and that the loss of one’s current job and state teaching license is punishment enough.

I mean as long as they’re staying consistent with firing them and stripping their liscense I don’t see the problem.

My penis agrees but my brain says relationships between teachers and students can create potential conflict of interest.

I agree with him. It isn’t a problem, it’s a fricking epidemic.

I still have no idea why this is even illegal. If both are of age it shouldn’t matter. Fire her sure but nothing seems illegal

Yes. If it’s consensual and both parties are of age. They’re getting punished with in their job already why should they be punished within the law when nobody else does?
Personally I think the of consent should be 18 across the board while making concessions for instances where it’s a high school senior and college freshman/sophomore. I don’t see any reason why anyone in high school should be in a relationship with anyone out of high school unless for the above mentioned issue.

I feel like this should be a case-by-case thing. If the teachers are hot, both parties win, so it's no big deal.
Maybe the teachers are worried about getting blackmailed
