Not a big golfer. Am I going to sit at the edge of the garage and watch cars go up and down the street? Get up at 5:00 AM and watch the news? Rather work.

Plus it won’t be a normal job. Going to start my own business. I’m going to get a truck and small trailer and set up mobile $20 breast exams.

I work with a couple of guys that are millionaires and can retire any day they want but keep coming to work. I think it's the dumbest thing you can do because at some point you are just giving your social security to the government because you won't live long enough to get a fraction of what you paid in back. You are also losing out on your retirement as well by not drawing it.

We do have a few that are getting our as soon as they can.

Unless you can retire with enough money to do the things you want, retirement sucks

THIS is the truth in this thread. To me, retirement at any age involves having frick You money. Having just enough to survive and retiring would blow. Decide you want to try fishing? Tough shite. No money to buy a boat. Friends all want to go to the beach? Tough shite. No money. At least when working you can work some OT or do a side gig or something to make a little extra.

I would OD on drugs in about six months if I didn't have a job to go to. My dad still works, but he also travels a lot. He works maybe 30 hours a week and then farts around for the rest of the time. He takes off a week or two every couple months to go somewhere. Half the time I see him at his desk he is playing solitaire, then minimizes when I walk in like I caught him doing something.

I work in the industry.

Some people are what they do and have noting else outside of work. No hobbies and sometimes no family. Work is all they’ve got.

Others hate their job Or have other passions and want to get out ASAP.

This is how I feel. I’m 39 and I have done so much shite, gone so many places, tons of LSU and Saints road trips, etc. in my 20s and 30s. I plan to keep it going in my 40s as well.

I definitely want to enjoy my younger years and travel as much as I can now before my body starts giving out

This is among the best quotes I've ever heard...

"Nobody on their death bed says, 'I wish I had spent more time at the office'".

People that retire early live longer. Your body isn’t made to work in your 60s and 70s.

Our CEO has one trust account with $20M in it. He has other accounts, too, including a massive 401k. He's 70 and comes in to the office everyday at 7:15AM. Eats lunch at his desk and leaves at 3PM for the gym. He says he isn't retiring anytime soon. Doesn't play golf, hunt, fish, tennis, etc.

I’ll be retiring from the fire service at 52. I may do windshields till 60. I’ll retire for good somewhere between 52-60, but for sure if all things go well no later than 60.

ETA: I said 60, 3 different times, wtf

I’m not the guy you posted this to, but I’m the same as him. In cybersecurity and I spend more time playing around with tools and techniques and researching new stuff than I do “working”. I mainly get paid for what I know, not what I do.

I’ll probably work full time until I’m 60 or so then switch over to consulting part time remotely to keep busy.

I got my hair cut by an 82 year old barber yesterday, said he had been cutting hair in the same shop for 60 years and did a great job. He looked like he was in his 60's.

I think if you have a job you love, it's not work. Me, I don't, and I'm hoping to be out by 60, checking the stock market every day.

I know people (like myself) who are constantly crunching numbers to see if they have any chance in hell of retiring early.

I did this a couple days ago and killed the stock market.

My goal was to always "be able to retire early", but was never "to retire early". There is peace of mind knowing you have financial freedom and can choose to live somewhere you want to live and maybe make a little less than you would elsewhere. Also peace of mind that if for some reason your job is no longer enjoyable anymore you have the freedom to go elsewhere.

I have seen way to many people retire and then two years later they were dead. You went from seeing them the first 6 months talking about how much they enjoyed it to seeing them sit home and become inactive. Health declined pretty quick being inactive physically and mentally (not having their mind stimulated with work/projects).
