I know people (like myself) who are constantly crunching numbers to see if they have any chance in hell of retiring early.

I also know people who would work into their 80's if they could, even though they don't need to. They love working.

Who loves work that much? Seriously, man. Don't you want to play golf or travel in your old age? Working sucks balls.

Never seen the headstone that read " Damn, I wish I would've worked one more day."

I love working.

However I play around more than I work.

I’ll probably do this until I’m in my 70’s or 80’s

I picked a career that I actually enjoy but I'd retire tomorrow if I could. I've been doing this shite for 21 years now.

There’s an ancient fricker at my work and I’ve never seen him take a sick or vacation day in 3 years. Not once. Nice enough guy but for some reason it bothers me so much that I have this irrational disdain for him.

There’s a difference between working a job you don’t care about because you have to put food on the table, and working doing something you like and not caring about money.

I’m going to explore that difference as soon as I can.

Once you have the freedom to work because you want to not because you have to, I imagine it becomes more enjoyable.

This is how I feel.

Those people just need something to do. I want to be the RV travel guy, get up and drink coffee at sunrise guy.

I'm about halfway through my career and I'm in a job I love, but once 59 and a half hits, I'm probably checking out.

Depends on your job. If you are doing something that you enjoy, then stay with it as long as you want and your health is good. I already retired once and went back to work in the same field. Unless you can retire with enough money to do the things you want, retirement sucks. Everything you do costs money and I am not the type to just sit around. My job gives me a sense of satifaction knowing I'm helping a team get things done. If your work sucks that bad then maybe you need to find another job. I'll retire for good when I'm 70 and will have enough money to travel and do the things I want.

It all depends on how good your benefits, including time off, are.

Same. I usually have to cash out my PTO because I reach the cap (7 weeks)

Same here, I might go into early retirement but I would still do some consulting work part-time.

My dad told me several years ago, "Son, when you retire, here is a piece of advice. Make damn sure you have somewhere you can consistently go (i.e. not your house) everyday."

I suspect this is one reason some people work into their 70s.

Why wait to travel until you're old? Enjoy it when you're younger and you can still do shite without having to worry about breaking your hip.

For the record, I plan to work until I'm about 70. I enjoy what I do and I enjoy being productive, so why not get paid to do what I enjoy?
