Had a place on Holly beach pre Hurricane Rita. The beach was eroding bad. It was not uncommon back then to have water under the camp. After Rita I sold my lot and I really do not know what it looks like now.

If it is anything like back then atleast Grand Isle has a grocery store. It was rustic and to go to the grocery store you took the ferry to Cameron or drove back to Sulphur. If you drive toward Port Aurthur that is a long haul.

Grand Ilse

Holly Beach has more trash, literally and figuratively.

I’ve seen Black Hawk Down, the beaches there are nicer

I'd buy that house halfway down rutherford tomorrow if that baw let me.

I love the dunes and the sound of waves. Don't give a damn about anything else.

I think Holly Beach had a small grocery store before Rita. Nothing but camps have been built since. Closest grocery store now is in Johnsons Bayou (15 miles) or Hackberry (20 miles).

Cameron is only 10 miles away, but you have to wait on that stupid ferry

There is a Rouses in Carlyss now, probably 30-35 miles from Holly Beach. Not sure how traffic is getting down there with all the LNG plants now.

Spend your money elsewhere, a lake maybe. Who would want to look at that nasty, chocolate milk looking, stinky arse, Gulf of Mexico every day?

I am familiar with this reference if you are talking about the one in Arkansas.

Did you ever see the “People of Holly Beach” pics thread?

This sounds like a solid random Instagram hashtag from Tyga Woods.

I’m already feeling the blood start to flow.

I’ve spent a lot of time at both. Grand Isle by far. Grand Isle has grocery stores, bars/daiquiris, marinas, restaurants, and gas stations. Holly Beach has nothing.

Since Ike, this place has kind of quietly become one of my favorite places to slip away too for fishing East Bay. Everything there is basically brand new.

On topic, Grand Isle in a landslide. There really isn't anything in Holly Beach. I would actually consider Hackberry over Holly Beach.

If these were my only 2 options I would have to go with Grand Isle. Better fishing, more resources(grocery, bar, etc), and more to do(docks, marinas, tournaments).

Both of those places have the potential to be wiped flat every summer, which would be a huge concern to me at retirement age. I wouldn't want to spend time and money rebuilding.

If you are determined to stick to one of those locations I would recommend buying a lot with power and sewer then dropping a camper on it. You can get the hell out at any time and if you get the itch to go somewhere new for a few weeks or months you can.

Grand isle but have you looked at the price of a place + insurance. Not sure it’s worth it to retire there. Unless you can drop cash on a camp and be ok with it being gone one day or not being able to get to it
