If you like heroin then Grand Isle is the place for you. If you like cow shite all over the beach, then Holly Beach, or just to the west of it Dung Beach (nickname given by all teens in the 70's)

Grand Isle comes close to white sand, but that is it.

You will need to go East to get blue water.

On my last venture, I had to go to Navarre before getting to the blue water. Pensacola/Orange Beach was green so I guess that is why they call it the Emerald Coast.

Yep.

I think Holly Beach had a small grocery store before Rita. Nothing but camps have been built since. Closest grocery store now is in Johnsons Bayou (15 miles) or Hackberry (20 miles).

We own a lot on Constance Beach (8 miles west of Holly Beach). After Ike wiped out the grocery store in Johnsons Bayou (after it had been destroyed and rebuilt from Rita) we moved our RV to Grand Isle. Much prefer GI. Better fishing, more to do, and can actually get groceries or eat at a restaurant.

Grand Isle has 2 grocery stores now and a couple of restaurants. The Grand Isle supermarket is about as close as you can get to a Walmart, a grocery store, and a hardware store all in one. They may even have wood, otherwise it is a long drive to civilization in South Lafourche or Houma. And, if you change you Drivers License to become a resident of Grand Isle you can get a free pass time cross the Leeville Bridge.

Neither.

When we bought our lot in Constance Beach in ‘07, the sand was beautiful. They had pumped sand in from offshore to rebuild the beach and it was almost white sand like FL or AL. But along came Hurricane Ike and washed all that shite away.

That being said, the water in Grand Isle is much better than in Holly Beach. If the surf isn’t rough, the water on the beach is usually green. It will never be like FL because of the Mississippi River. Grand Isle is known for the fishing, not the beaches.

If that’s your only 2 choices Grand Isle and it’s not even close

But why are those your only 2 choices. There’s much better options along the Gulf Coast to live/retire

If given a life sentence to either I would risk being shot trying to escape.

Why not offer Mogadishu as option 3?

I can make it to Sand Dollar Marina from New Orleans in less than 2 hours.

There are several Rouses and a Wal Mart on the way down there as well as 2 very stocked Grocery stores and 2 very Stocked marinas on the island as well as several restaurants and bars.

Wut? All you need is a Geaux Pass and you can go through for little to nothing

Something tells me you’ve haven’t been down there in a while.

I was talking about how someone can establish residency on the island you can get a Geauxpass for free and not have to pay the toll. The toll is 3.75 one way. If you have to go back and forth from Grand Isle to South Lafourche or where ever a few times a day that will run someone broke.

The caveat on the free pass is residency, you just can’t have a camp on the island and you get a free Geauxpass.

By the way, I live on the way to the island. I was there a few weeks ago. So I know the island and the area all too well.

Gotcha. I have a Geaux Pass that’s connected to my CC, and go down there either to Fourchon or the Isle more than a dozen or so times a year

I’ve been on the Isle 6 or 7 weekends since the shutdown, we may have ran into each other.

I would be leaving again Wednesday but they cancelled the Tarpon so this will be the first time in about 30 years we’re going not going to be there this weekend

My Mom And Dad lived in Grand Isle for about twenty years. The year of Katrina they evacuated 9 times. They loved the Island.
