Restaurants giving food to 1st responders after EVERY EMERGENCY...question

You’re right, no one is starving. But have you ever been so busy and so exhausted from working and going above and beyond your typical job duties that you’ve forgotten to eat or even just drink water?

Because I have.

It’s also a way to say thank you. Actions speak louder than words.

It's a sign of appreciation. It isn't because they are starving. You missed the point.

You may get downvoted but kind of agree. I know healthcare workers enjoy the donated food and it’s great for morale but they are getting consistent paychecks while this is going on. There a lots of people that would benefit more with no income coming in at all. However it’s not at all a bad thing.

People want to feel good about themselves. That’s pretty much it in a nutshell

I don’t think it’s a bad thing to help first responders, but there’s a point where it does get a little over the top. I mean, these people did make a conscious decision to take this career path and they are getting paid for the work that they perform. It’s not like it’s pro bono, and while you can say they’re under paid, or you appreciate the job they perform, or some people in society don’t appreciate them, that’s fine, but it’s still them doing the job that they decided they wanted to do in life. I mean, nurses get paid 6 figure salaries, and people act like they’re all little Joan of Arc volunteers out there, and doctors much more. While I do have an appreciation for their hard work, it’s still their choice, so I think a lot of this showing of appreciation stuff goes just a wee bit over the top.

When you own your restaurant you can give free food to who ever you want. This is who they are choosing to give it to

I can’t speak for everyone, but after my buddies were ambushed and killed at the Bquick on Airline in July 2016, the outpouring of support and food from the community helped remind me that the work we do is important and that we were appreciated.

Sometimes the risk and sacrifices don’t seem worth it anymore. But a small gesture like a free meal or genuine thanks from a concerned citizen will put things back in perspective.
