Responding to Your Superiors as Sir and/or Ma’am

Is there any excuse to not respond to your superior/boss’ questions, etc with Yes Sir or No Sir? When a subordinate responds with Okay, Mike or something along those lines that’s blatant disrespect. Is this informalism a function of Boomers not wanting to feel old?

I would never mandate my subordinates refer to me as yes sir/no sir as long as they were respectful and understand that there's a time and a place for everything.
Short of being my commanding officer, I'm certainly not addressing you as yes sir/no sir after every comment.

The problem here is you seem to think that you deserve respect that you aren't getting
Maybe you don't actually deserve it and need to look in the mirror. How do you treat your employees? I'm guessing if you're that obsessed about them calling you sir probably not as well as you think.

I was raised to say Sir and Ma'am.
I'm 32. Simply put, I say it to anyone that is my parents generation or older.
No i'm not going to say it to my direct boss that's 5 years older than me. I speak to him with respect but not sir.
My kids are being raised to say it as well.
