It is definitely regional. Outside of the south or military I think it’s frowned upon.

No. You have hired me to perform a service. You are my employer not my commander.
ETA: I'd always start out in a sir / man. Then after a couple weeks the social construct of the existing office place will lead you to see if or to whom that is necessary.

This aint the military. People that get off on having others call them sir/ma'am, military or non military, are weird mother frickers. And they usually suck

Nah, Tweedledum. If you're my boss, I'm quitting to go work at a company with competent leaders.

I’m 52 and was raised the same way, I don’t expect anyone to say to me but I still say to most people that I deal with on a daily basis, to me it’s just showing them respect, I know in today’s atmosphere that it’s kinda taboo to say it at all .

The Army is not civilian life. And vice versa.
I don't even say "sir" to our managing partner. I just call him by his first name like everyone else does.

I literally got laughed at calling my manager sir my first week on the job. So no I don’t

It's cute you equate being a civilian "boss" with being a commander in the military.

I dont like people under me calling me sir, feels like they are trying to kiss my arse. I just want you to do your job correctly in a timely manner.

Who the hell says sir/man in an office setting? I’m 30 and work with mostly people 50+ and I don’t even say that

Absolutely part of it. It’s also straight up lack of parenting by boomers and X’ers

How do you not say yes sir or ma’am to people older than you? I’m not saying bow down to them, but when someone asks you a question you just respond with yeah?
Posted on 2/27/20 at 7:25 am to Oilfieldbiology
Because they don’t want me to? I did it when I was 22 and got a lot of weird looks. You honestly say yes sir yes mam to everything they ask you?
